I am skeptical, but I built a Jeep Gladiator on the website (It's not yet available), but the options are salivating. I'd never buy one, but sure wish that Toyota would pay attention; https://www.jeep.com/gladiator.html

Some options that make it attractive include, but not limited to:

    1) a damn manual transfer case (this is almost, almost enough to sway me)
    2) front and rear lockers at 4.10 ratio
    3) steel winch capable front bumper, and steel rear bumper
    4) cloth seats standard
    5) 33" 285/70/17 standard AT tires
    6) MT standard
    7) 11.1" clearance
    8) Fox 2.0 shocks
    9) front, trans, transfer case, and fuel tank skid plates
    10) removable doors
    11) power tailgate lock
    12) heated front seats and steering wheel

Tacoma will have to really play up reliability after the Gladiator comes available. I'd rather poke both eyes out before I bought one of these. However in the 70s I had both a Willys M38-A1 and a 73 CJ-5 (I paid $3500 for new), and they were the best off-road vehicles I've ever owned. If Willys still made them, or even American Motors if they still existed, I'd buy one in a flash. As a geoarchaeologist I wouldn't buy a vehicle that is nearly guaranteed to strand me 20 miles from the nearest highway just to have those options. Sigh...

Thought an access cab/ 6' bed option was available.

    No dice...

The convertible option is the only thing that I think it’s got on the Tacoma, especially our MT Pros....and then you’d need the cloth.

Although the Rubicon interior is better than ours. Incredible really. The manual transfer case is cool but not enough to sway me haha.

    If I ever go jeep, I’ll go 2dr JLR......but after a T4R

If Toyota was smart they'd drop a landcruiser pickup to kill this thing.

    1) a damn manual transfer case (this is almost, almost enough to sway me) - Nice, but an FJ case can be swapped in ours
    2) front and rear lockers at 4.10 ratio - Front locker would be nice, though I have barely used my rear
    3) steel winch capable front bumper, and steel rear bumper - Steel, but prob relatively flimsy since it is an OEM offering.
    4) cloth seats standard
    5) 33" 285/70/17 standard AT tires - Stock size for most offroad jeeps, and thats thanks to their body design
    6) MT standard -
    7) 11.1" clearance - IDk what a tacoma is, but that seems pretty good
    8) Fox 2.0 shocks - 2.5+ or GTFO
    9) front, trans, transfer case, and fuel tank skid plates - Probably built like the tacoma "skid plates"
    10) removable doors - You can remove the tacoma doors
    11) power tailgate lock -3G tacomas have this right
    12) heated front seats and steering wheel - to combat the doors you took off :D

Totally subjective....but I just can’t get past the looks.
    Options are cool though.

That's essentially my opinion too. It seems that Toyota, however, isn't paying attention as much as in the past to build quality. I've had 6 over the last 30 years, and very few issues, but many on here have real problems. If the build quality continues to suffer, then buying a POS Jeep of Ford won't be a problem for many.

    ^this!^

Toyota is glad to rest on it laurels, they are kind of the Apple of the car world. Their products are good, but they aren't particularly innovative. I told my wife about the Jeep and that if I were to buy a new truck it would be on the short list. (and I say this as a former Jeep owner and I am more than aware of Jeep's lack of relability.)

Honestly, this is the most tempting Jeep product I've ever seen. The dealership in my area had a couple BRUTE modified ones, and they just look badass. A Jeep pickup... I want

ARB Bumper, SOS sliders, rear bumper, and skid plate. OME Lift. Some other stuff.
Playing it safe works for them, they don't need gimmick vehicles to make money.

Look at what Toyota stock trades for (over $100 a share) compared to Fiat (under $20 A share).

There ain't nothing wrong with being the Apple of car makers (he said typing on his MacBook Pro) And, I don't think the Jeep is a gimmick vehicle. With solid front and rear axles it's going to be the best off-road truck on the market. No Toyota Tacomas are slowly being left behind. The other day I sold some stuff on Craigs List and the buyer showed up in a new Chevy Colorado. It had the step up notch in the corner of the rear bumper. It made a big difference in how easy it was to get stuff into the bed. Eventually Toyota will have the same feature and they'll make it seem like they invented it, just like Apple does with their "innovations".

not anybody's fan boy, just call them the way I see them.
