...And I may be line-x biased just because it was so huge cosmetically for my '86, my first vehicle. It's like the first Fuck Yah! mod I ever saved up money for

I went completely backwards. I bought a 3rd gen as soon as they were released in 2015.

Then in 2017 I bought a 2nd gen project truck.

Now I bought a 1st gen project truck.

Went from ‘95 manual to ‘17 auto trd OR. I abused and neglected the shit out of that thing and it’s still going. I was hoping for a major issue to come up so I could have a valid reason to upgrade. But at 255k miles, nothing happened. I got tired of waiting so I went ahead and got the ‘17. 1gen and 3gen are so drastically different that any complaints anyone has about the 3gen I just laugh off. It makes me feel like I’m in a Mercedes.

I went from a 2004 Tacoma Limited to a 2018 Tacoma Limited. I bought both new. The 18 is lots bigger and has tons more gadgetry. Probably the thing I liked least about the 2004 was how low the radio sat which made using it for GPS virtually impossible even if you went aftermarket for the radio. Other than that, I loved it and I still miss it. The 2004 wasn't as quiet as the 2018 but that might just be the tires. Not sure.

I feel that the 2004 will still be on the road long after the 2018 is dead and buried.

Parking the 04 was always a piece of cake but the short bed drove me nuts, I was always pulling out the toolbox to haul anything. Other than that it was a great little truck I had to keep in the family. Sold it to my son and bought the 16.

Love the power, comfort and size of the 16.

    I went Gen 1 to Gen 3.

    I LOVED my Gen 1.

Gen 3 has heated and leather seats, bluetooth and real seat belts for my daughter and pax. I miss my 6' bed and the small size. I would have NEVER gone to Gen 3, but my frame rotten-out on my 01' AND the rack failed and could not be boiled back on the frame; I had no real world choice.
I hate all the electronics and crap that can fail on Gen 3.

GEN 1 ALL DAY LONG. PLUS, I had a rear locker for the Starbucks parking lot.

I went from an 04 xtra cab to a 17 crew cab off road. The 04 was a 4cyl 5 speed and the 17 is the V-6 automatic. The 04 is smaller and has less power. Isn't as comfortable but funner to drive. The 17 is a huge upgrade. I never even rode in the 2nd generation Tacoma so the changes from an 04 to 17 were to me amazing.

Test drive the automatic if that is what you plan to get. Make sure you are comfortable with the shifting patterns. I loved my 04 but I wanted something that didn't beat the crap out of me on a long drive. I like the 17 but I really think I am going to jump up to the Tundra. The shifting on the automatic is something I really do not care for and I wanted a Tundra to start with.

I went from an 97’ to a 17’. The 97’ was a more practical truck in terms of bed. 6’ bed, and it was lowered so it was easier to move shit like couches. But the fit and finish of the 17 is so much nicer.

    Honestly, if I didn’t need 4wd, I’d still have my 1st gen
