You'll be fine in a stock truck. Here is my stock truck except tires on the staircase:

I've seen a few vids and that's the section that concerns me most. I'm usually on gravel or muddy/snowy forest roads, not rock. Would a half inch gained by new tires help? I have no armor on the truck. Would it be advisable to upgrade the stock skid (or maybe i should thrash the stock skid and upgrade after this trip)? It doesn't seem like sliders would help much on the staircase.

Awesome video. Sounds like you had crawl control engaged? No concerns the long bed and its longer wheel base?

The whole video was showing crawl control when these 1st came out.
No idea on the long bed situation.
In stock for I didn't touch at all. With aftermarket skids I did touch but I think it was on other area's of that trail.

if you have a 2nd gen taco you will break off the hitch plug (so bend it out of the way or buy the relocation kit). use 4 low and ATRAC and you will be amazed at how easy the whole thing is. The staircase has really gotten worn down so it's easier now and wider.

Sounds good. Thanks! I had worried when others said it had gotten worn down over the years that they meant the ruts got deeper.

    Ummm....stuff and more stuff

My experience exactly with stock setup. Dragged my trailer hitch on one exit point due to a bad line and broke my trailer plug mount.

My stock tires did slip with traction on the rocks but not major. Just go with the flow and it is not bad at all.

Stock DCSB coming down Devils Staircase a couple weeks ago. 265/70/17 tires only suspension mod. did not use crawl control here either. The first step down is by far the worst once you get over that it is not bad

Did put a decent dent and scratches on my front skid somewhere along the way. Scraped the back of my hitch in a couple spots including this optional climb

I'd probably be avoiding the optional climbs. What's the noise @ 22 seconds in the video? Are you wearing stock skids? Those tires gave you ~0.5 extra inches of clearance. Did you air down?

Think it is the hitch hitting on a drop or the hit to the front skid, dont know when when I saved the video from email the voice went into slow mo....

    Also no air down

Once you learn to air down.. it's a game changer plus you don't destroy the trails. my High clearance bumper with integrated hitch behind the license and cutting the fenders bumper gives me 6" more clearance than stock without my tall tires.

The trail is a blast. Stock Tacoma with 4x4 is all you need.

Lockers and atrak help but like the above mention states as long as you air down you can do it no problem.
