I don't think it's a matter of simply clearing codes. The battery disconnect also clears residual "learned" variables that appear to be causing issues with the tune.

Don't try to shortcut the instructions. Do exactly as Mat suggests.

There's a function entech stream for doing exactly this. It's called something like clear stored values.

 

That would be different than merely "clearing codes." If techstream also has a way to clear all "learned values," then maybe that would be enough.

I personally wouldn't take the chance, though. It's not like it's difficult to disconnect the battery...

 

It is not just clearing codes It clears all learned values. I have used it before...

 

To clear up any confusion... if you're worried about old learned values stored in your ECU, do the following:

If you've already flashed 1.05:
Disconnect battery for 10 minutes or so
Start truck, let it idle for a few minutes if you want to speed up idle learning, because you've cleared idle also with battery disconnect.

If you're flashing 1.05:
Flash truck per the process
Start the truck to ensure the flashing was successful
Turn off truck, disconnect battery for 10 minutes
Start truck and do idle learning process

That's it, you're good to go!

I'm not asking anything. He said "nothing better" because it is the easiest way for ANYONE to clear learned values. It does not require any additional software or computer knowledge. He already has to deal with computer literacy issues with the tune even though it is dead simple.

I was merely confirming that Techstream does in fact have a function to accomplish the same thing as @Ruggybuggy suggested.

It's not a matter of ease, it's a matter of preference and convenience. If I'm sitting in my truck to flash and it's -10 degrees F out, I would much rather click a button in Techstream (it's on the same computer I use to flash), than get out of the truck and screw around under the hood with the battery.

I flashed back to 1.05 87 and followed the instructions to a “t” including the battery disconnect. Took it for a 5 mile loop at 55 mph (completely warm engine) had 8 misfires. Something else is going on. Hoping Mats testing goes well this weekend.

I'm back on the 91 tune and all seems good again.

 

Consolidating some information here for those interested. I've never had a vehicle where clearing the DTCs would not reset learned values, however Mat alludes to this potentially being an issue with some Toyota ECU's. At least thats how I interpret his comments. I will say though, having to disconnect the negative battery terminal is a bit annoying. Thanks Toyota!

 

Reflash that I did last Sunday helped and results were better after 200 miles.On a few last drives I had no more than 5 misfires.
So this morning I reset ECU. Started up and it was 0. Went shopping and on the way back had 2 - 0 on startup and 2 while navigating through parking lot.
Took a truck to the hills and it performed even better. Spooled to 90. Zero misfires..
Hope the herpes is cured ...

 

Not available until new Flash Manager is released.. an update to Gearlock has been posted on the first page. Flash Manager is very very close to complete.

Other than that gear locking is working perfect so it will be available release day of FM update.
