You can also see our exchanges starting on page 46 or 47 I believe.

I had already purchased new door speakers and was going to purchase a lci7 due to what I was being told. OP also suggested to me for it to work was to use components and tweeter set after I had purchased the door speakers and had already upgraded to the Subaru upgrade kicker tweets. So instead of doing all that I just bought kickers new amp that handles all that and will turn the signal into good use for the amp. It saved me nearly $300 and less equipment and wiring and time if I had went the other route

But I appreciate ops thread and input if not I would have never got to where I am right now with out it all.

This is what I did. Kept the factory tweeter frame, cut out the guts and solder in a much better "real" tweeter in place.

That posts says to leave that connector alone...my question is what does that orange wire do? I know it connects to the blue wire that is moved on the female side

The reason I ask is because I’m using an lc2i to run my door speakers and sub, which only uses signal from the front. I will run speed wire from my amp back to the female connectors to power the doors, but I was wondering if the stock HU used that orange wire for something. It’s not labeled as being used on the diagrams I’ve found.

Dude, I'm sorry, I really don't know. I just followed @Mr Marv s instructions. Maybe he will chime in now?

I have wondered the same thing. I chatted with destin_meeks and he said it isn't needed.

However, I tend to waaay overthink things. After 28 years of repairing and troubleshooting electronics on Naval aircraft and Naval surface vessels I tend to gravitate towards a manual. So off to the manual I go. I will say upfront that the manual I have is for 2005 and up, but I do not know when it was created or if there have been updates for newer vehicles I am waiting on a neighbor who works at my local Toyota dealership to get me the wiring diagram for my truck (2014 DCSB). That said, on page AV-43 (Illumination Circuit), the manual states it is ILL- and goes to the light control rheostat. The connector is identified as R2 and pin 5. Now when you look up page AV-20 it doesn't show anything as being connected at that pin. It only shows the 4 rear speaker wires. This could be because this section of the manual is partly for terminals of the ECU and for troubleshooting the sound system and not for troubleshooting the lighting.

What could be happening with not having a wire there is that everything will work, but you may not be able to change the brightness when adjusting the brightness knob on the dash.

I haven't removed my head unit yet so I am not 100% sure if there is even a wire in the stock connector. If there isn't then fantastic. If there is, then why wouldn't we hook something up to it? However, I believe there might be a brown w/ white tracer wire there. I would like to trace that wire, if one is there, back to wherever it goes.

I think I am going to leave the wire unconnected and see if the rheostat does anything. If it doesn't then I will add a wire to the side of the connector that doesn't have one and make a straight through connection and see what that does.

I have added a + and - lead from the Metra harness ( +red- accessory power. - black to be grounded behind the head unit) back to the LC2 I am installing. Going to tap into the orange and blue + feeds for powering LED lighting in the back.

It would be great if you could post the stereo wiring diagram for the 2016 + Tacoma 4x4.

Pulled the radio today to work on figuring out a good place to mount my Kicker Key and route the wires for my install. I checked the wire that has recently been questioned. It is not brown with a white tracer like the manual shows. It is green with a white tracer. I put my meter in the back of the pin and rolled the brightness knob on the dash. As I rolled it the voltage changed. Fully dim was 0 VDC and fully bright was 11.48 VDC. So it is definitely connected to the brightness control rheostat. I would like to know if those that did not hook anything to that wire have brightness control on the radio, clock, or temp controls.

Unfortunately, I still haven't heard from my neighbor about the wiring schematics.

This is the Metra harness I have built. I connected colour for colour. The info on the package says the orange with white stripe is dimmer output. I have not connected to confirm yet.

That wire is not the one I have been checking. I was checking the one in the rear speaker connector.
Now that I think about it, I never checked to see what was or wasn't illuminated or being dimmed when I was measuring the voltage. I had pulled the connector from the back of the radio when I was doing my measurements. Should be simple enough so I will do that today when I get home from work today.

I wish there was a complete wiring schematic like there is for my motorcycles.

So this is what I found out for a 2014 DCSB PreRunner with an Entune non JBL radio with 100% stock wiring. Your application might vary.

With the rear speaker connector that contains the stock green with a white tracer wire (what would be the orange with a black tracer wire on the metra harness) disconnected the illumination for the radio buttons goes away. At that time you obviously lose the brightness control from the rheostat.

So adding a wire to the metra harness for the rear speakers that does not have a mate for the orange with a black tracer wire is absolutely necessary if you want your radio buttons to be illuminated and have brightness control from the rheostat.

Hello everyone, looking to fully upgrade my sound system all the way around (2019 toyota tacoma trd sport double cab). Not easy because it's so new but I was woundering when you replaces the door speakers did the mounting points fit or did you have to make custom mounts to fit?

    Try Crutchfield.com for speaker adapters.
Also, get some sound deadener for the door panels. It will cut road noise and improve bass response.
Don't forget to change out the dash mount tweeters.

Thanks I've heard that's the first thing to do is the tweeters but I want to put my own in not the $100 ones that are plug and play but on the stock tweeters there's 4 wires and aftermarket ones are 2 wires so gotta mess with it

Take a look at my earlier post. I'm pretty good with a soldering iron so I soldered in a set of Bose tweeters into the factory housings.
