I recall the manual saying that some phones may get hot. I charged my iPhone8+ for the first time today; had to take it out of the Otter Box Defender for it to work. 35 minute drive home from work - checked when I get out, phone was charged but definitely very warm to the touch. From that experience, I'm not going to let my phone charge for more than 30-40 minutes at a time. Now if the Qi only had a timer built-in.....

Okay this morning I discovered by accident that if my phone is positioned at the front on the Qi pad, it charges with the Otter box on.

If you have a charging app, you'll see how slow it charges. Mine charges at about 300+- mA. It SHOULD charge at minimum 600 to charge at all.
I don't even use the on board charger, it's too slow especially running Bluetoothand/ or gps.
I just use my Anker charger.

I just tossed it in there. I remembered reading somewhere that having the phone towards the front is the best place for charging. I'm just glad I don't have to take it out of the Otter Box every time I want to charge it.

It sucks that it is out of warranty but I would still contact the Dealership and Toyota Corporate, the Qi Pad bubbling up is a precursor to a possible fire which could indicate an inherent safety problem as these Qi Chargers age.

If it was being used in accordance with manufacturers guidelines this should not have happened.

You could also report it to the NTSB in the US or Transport Canada.

This one way that recalls happen.

For those with Otterbox Defender cases, I have noticed that if I remove the outer rubber (pretty easy to do) from the case, the charging pad works MUCH better. It still has to be positioned properly, but it charges and doesn't overheat quickly. It also isn't constantly starting and stopping the charge cycle, turning the screen on.

    Just thought I would share...
