On my bucket list to do,walking the entire trail. But would start on the northern end in spring and go south.Seen pictures of the boulder field. That area could ruin the whole trip

I've been "section" hiking the AT for over 12 years. I've completed Tennessee, North Carolina, part of Virginia, part of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and part of Maine. Backpacking is my passion ( besides my Tacoma ). I hike all year round. When I retire in a couple of years, I am seriously considering thru-hiking the entire trail. God willing. My wife thinks I'm crazy. She just doesn't understand the serenity that nature brings to ones self. 4wheelslacker - maybe I'll see you on the trail one day.

Have to agree with you on the peace and serenity of hiking alone! I spend most my days around salesmen and people.Bike riding alone is my weekly wind down and time away.l keep my phone with me just in case, but l won't answer it..
So hiking for days would be awesome!

When I was much younger, thought it would be great to hike the PCT out west here, but after I had a few more miles and years under my belt, thought hiking every day for months would not set well. Even last summer a friend asked if I wanted to section hike thru Washington state, a 500 mile trip. After my solo trip this summer for five nights, wrote him that I didn't have the stamina to go out for that many miles and to do required daily mileage to finish in 30 days. Tough getting old. Little disappointed, so many places yet to see and things to do.
A couple inches of good snowball making snow overnight, much more in the forecast. Higher elevations expecting many, many feet of snow the next couple days.

:pccoffee:  Good morning sixtys/wannabes/Susan. It's finally warming up here, supposed to go above freezing today. By Tuesday it will be 50 and I'll be able to turn off the gutter heaters.

The timing is good for me because I store a couple of cars in a garage at the top of a steep, gravel drive that doesn't get much use. One of those cars has a date with the local indy mechanic next week. Hopefully I'll be able to tease it down the hill without doing anything expensive!

    First welcome.
    Second and most important.
Just because you turned 60 did not mean you had to leave the 50+ forum.
There are a lot of old farts in the 50 group.
    It was your loss waiting.
We jump and contribute to both.
Feel free to speak up in the 50 group as well as here...
    Enjoy Tom

Well rounded and busy ! I am envious !
The race cars and pilot areas are out of my league . I did fly a friends plane a few times while in the air but just a little up down left right stuff but feel I could fly any plane as long as I do not need to take off or land it . Piece of cake .
No race cars either other than building a demo derby car. 1975 Lincoln Mark 5 , 460 and when the wife drove it it was unstoppable , for a while .Just spent more than I am willing to think about on cars and trucks over the years .Mostly fishing now ( some hunting )and getting ready to get back into wood working now .
I am retired tool and die and always worked with making things .

And of course spend too much time on this forum and BassBoatCentral.

Bass boat central ? I will have to look that up . After retiring , we moved from Wis. to Northern Ar. We have been trying hard to learn to catch stripers and Walleye/crappie on Lake Norfork without a guide . Transitioning from Muskies to stripers .Not used to clear water but always heard of big crappie and bass down here in the south .. I grew up playing golf too. Not very good but can easily play double boggie on most coarses .

I would play find the water..
I was very very good at it.
All my spare pockets were filled with used golf balls.
