Put a new shifter bushing set on. Truck will not come out of 4th gear. Engage clutch truck roll. Let clutch out transmission engaged but will not come out of gear.

You have probably just miss aligned the dogs. Should be a simple fix, remove and look. Make sure your tranny is in neutral once you pull the shifter off.

I got gas at the gas station. Had no problem shifting in the first getting to where I was going. Park the truck. Needed to move the truck so they can pull a U-Haul in went to start it let out the clutch. And truck will not move tried to take it out of gear was stuck in gear. Look online and he said the bushings are bad replace the bushings. And now it will not come out of gear

I had 2 old (91 & 03) ford rangers do that. Both of them had a couple gears sheared off. Had to have them towed to a shop and rebuild the trannys. The 03 was right after I bought it, so luckily I was able to get the dealer to cover most of the cost.

So when you let out the clutch the truck did not stall but did not move??

No noises what so ever ??

You pulled the shifter out with the transmission in gear to replace the bushing and seat??

Have you pulled things apart to get it back in neutral?

You already had the bushing and seat ??

I agree that you need to remove the shifter again .
Once the shifter is out , have a friend push the truck by hand in a rocking motion as you try to get your forks back into the nuetral position using a big flat screwdriver . This is a common problem when there is considerable wear on your alluminum shifter forks as well as your transmission detents .
The detent system inside the transmission holds the transmission in the gear you selected .
The interlock system inside the transmission prevents you from selecting 2 gears at the same time .
As the transmission ages , the interlocks as well as the detents get a little worn out . If you have any considerable wear on your alluminum shift forks , the transmission can get stuck in gear .
Pop your shifter out and take a picture of the fork position and we will try and help you figure this out .
I have some fancy tricks up my sleeve .
That fact that the transmission is stuck in direct drive ( 4th ) doesnt help much .
How noisy was this transmission when it was working ?

I'm having the same problem with my tacoma. I've changed the seals twice. The 1st time I changed it the original seals was worn completely out. I couldn't get to 3rd gear without it grinding or scratching. I changed the seals then 4th gear started grinding when I try to shift. Then a few days later it wouldn't come out of 4th gear. I changed the seals yesterday again. I got them from an Toyota dealer. So what can I do to get it out of gear?
