You are correct, but the fact of the matter is nobody complains about parts that don't break so that's why you never see any bad threads about companies like total chaos/dirt king/icon/camburg/etc. They are all based on a poly bushing design at the coil bucket (or in some cases heim joints) and either a uni-ball or a ball joint at the steering arm. SPC went out on an island with their design of the rubber bushing and sleeve design and it obviously fell short of the mark, the pictures don't lie.

I did not rag on him for buying the SPC arms, simply told him it was a mistake. Mistakes are made every day; whether it's in the design, marketing, or purchasing of a product. Live and learn, you base your information on what is known to you at the time. Maybe the OP didn't know about the issues with the SPC arms when he bought them. And FYI, the SPC arms I've seen break were not on "dedicated rock crawler" type rigs, they were used for normal daily driving. So he bought some "budget friendly" parts, I can't knock anyone for that. Hell most of my parts these days I make myself simply because I'm too cheap and would rather spend money elsewhere. There's a time and a place to cheap out on parts, suspension isn't one of them. I'd buy the 1 ply toilet paper and eat ramen noodles for a few more weeks and just pony up for a tried and true product that has proven itself year after year. SPC does have great customer service I will admit that; but with their warranty they just keep giving you the same poorly engineered product over and over again as if somehow magically they improved the design.


If you are talking to me, I did not "call you out", you are the one that quoted my post and called me a dick head. I thought my original post was pretty respectful and was meant to inform the OP to check the torque on the coil bucket bolt, as the gap does not appear normal. Perhaps SPC "revised design" calls for a gap now with that belleville washer or offset washer. Maybe that gap is normal then; if it is then I learned something today. If the new design of SPC calls for a gap where the washer meets the bushing, that alone is another reason why I would stay far away from those type of UCAs.

Lastly, this is the internet where everythings made up and the points don't matter. Take a persons post with a grain of salt. If you don't like their opinion, boo hoo, move on. Sorry about your thin skin.

Have you ever been on reddit? I have spent more time there recently (for topics other than trucks) and there is legit solid advice from people who care. Trolls and bad attitudes get weeded out quick. Not the case here. Toxic toxic toxic.

This is a forum, I am not owed anything nor are you. I do not see where my Marine background has any bearing on the situation other than understanding that you can be a professional most anytime if you choose to do so. I do not question @jberry813 for his fabrication skills as he has an extremely nice build and have no doubt that he is extremely qualified. Hell, as a mod he dedicates much of his time to this forum and is helpful to many people. In that same vein you have no qualifications to assume my experience or qualifications either. I get it, I sound like a snowflake. So be it, I have thick skin when it comes to situations regarding myself. I also tend to try not to treat people poorly because I usually do not type something I would not say to someones face. That whole thing of getting punched in the nose for being a dick head that people tend to forget when they say things sitting at a desk.

As a Marine I understand tact and most times demonstrate the use of it. My point was this. With my experience and extended period of time being on this forum and building these trucks I would take no issue for being called a dumb ass for purchasing an inferior part. I have been around, I get it. I know the forum and should know I am asking for it. What I take pause with is a new member asking a question about an install and being bagged on for the parts he spent his money on. There is no need for that. It lacks tact and is a poor position for this forum to take. The fact that as many of you are jumping on to bury your nose further up the ass of persons you view as authority figures on a forum is in fact the very justification of the crux of the issue.

 

OP, SPC ucas are fine, I have them as well and and that space looks normal, the washers are not flat, they are flanged/flared outward. the center IS touching, the outside is not, if they are tight, good to go

I was not calling you out and I apologise for calling you a dick head. What I took issue with was your arrogance in stating that his UCA's were not tight when you do not understand the update that has been made to the part and that the OP was actually good to go. Thanks for taking all the time to try and make your point above but I can show you as many pictures of TC, Icon (really, Icon is pretty much crap) Camburg UCA's failing also. Sorry you have had bad luck with SPC. Not like they are falling off 90% of the trucks they are on. They were actually one of the first to bring these to market so they didn't exactly go out on an island. I too am a fabricator, not for fun but it is what I do for a living and on a very large scale. I also understand that some parts fail and there is an unfortunate number of failures weather it be from improper use, craftsmanship flaw or sometimes a poor design. Things sometimes need be updated/upgraded to remedy an issue. It happens, that is why you get TSB's from the dealer on your truck. In this case with SPC they had an issue with bushing failure and separating from the core bushing, they "fixed" this by shrinking the width of the UCA arm design and introduced a bushing that would tighten while allowing the rubber bushing to not be pinched by the retaining bolt. Thus they alleviated the issue where they were seeing the failures.

Now, as for you seeing broken welds. That is a concern however not one I have had to deal with. I respect your opinion however think we can try and be more helpful. Best of luck to you.

Also, @6 gearT444E chimed in above with a better written reply than his original post that came off a bit curt. Now that he explained a bit more, he provided actual useful information to OP and the rest of us reading here. It's the useful information that makes this site better and the snarky comments that detract and push away new members.
I have nothing against 6 gear (dude apparently knows what he's talking about) and wont fault OP or anyone for buying less expensive parts for their trucks if that's what they want.

Dont get me wrong my friend. SPC wouldnt be my first choice either. Buy once cry once....took me a few tries to figure that one out..
Also, if you base your buying of a product based on what you see on a forum...no one would own a 3rd gen. Lol
