Today one of my ignition coils quit on me, once the check engine light started flashing I turned the car off almost immediately, pulled over and had my car towed home. I didnt turn the car on, except for a few time to diagnose and test.

Anyways, I got it fixed and coincidentally I was going to smog my car today, but after the misfiring I was wondering if I should maybe wait?

Do I need to drive it around to clear the catalytic converter?

I have basic mechanical skills, so the cat is out of my wheelhouse and I really have no idea if what Im asking is a thing or if you guys will think Im nuts... but I figured Id ask

After clearing the codes, you need to drive the truck around for a day or so, so that the smog moniters can reset (not sure if those are the exact words).

The emission monitors are set under varying driving conditions and can take a long time to set. I usually will do a 45 min drive cycle to improve my odds
15 mins of this should be at freeway speeds but not much faster. Have your local autozone (They have a scanner) make sure there are no codes and check the monitors to make sure your truck is ready to test
