Fox TRD Pro Suspension on a 2nd gen

I did a ton of searching and couldn’t find pictures of a 2nd gen with 3rd gen TRD pro suspension so I figured I’d post mine now that I have it installed. I bought them used with about 10k so any settling should have taken place already. I have an AAL in the rear that came with the truck that is supposedly a 3” lift. I think Les Schwab installed it. Unknown brand. The front is fox TRD Pro suspension with no spacers. Tires are 265/70/17.
I need to fix the forward take but haven’t decided on what yet. I’d like it to sit level. My current leaf pack is pretty flat so I’d like to buy a full pack instead of a different AAL. Any recommendations are appreciated.

I've got the Pro Fox setup on my LB 3rd Gen with 1/2" spacers/blocks in front/rear.

 

Did you set the fronts to 2" lift? How does it ride?

Also how did you mount the reservoirs?

 

The Fox Trd pro suspension isn’t adjustable so it’s just 2”.
The reservoirs are attached to the rear shocks and the fronts don’t have one.

Looks good. I got a brand new set of 2019 TRD OR shocks (200 miles on em, not the pros) for a great price.. and I'll be refreshing my old somewhat worn out suspension.

So you did an AAL, then took it out and went with a complete leaf pack instead? Hmm. I'm wondering if an AAL would be good for me, or if I'll need a new set too. Mine is a 2011 with 97k miles.

 

So, how much lift did you get in the front with the 3rd gen. Pro suspension on your 2nd gen.?

 

I am thinking about this same setup! I bought a new Tacoma yesterday (2014 TRD off-road, access cab, 6spd, black, and only 27k miles!) and I just saw the 3rd gen TRD Pro Fox Shocks on Craigslist. I like the idea of staying with the TRD Pro suspension but I am also considering going Icon stage 3ish. I'm currently running the 2nd gen Bilstein TRD Pro suspension on my 2006 TRD off-road (same as above... Access cab, 6spd, etc) with toytec AAL and I love the ride. I may have to gamble on the Fox after seeing this post.

I just put 3rd gen shocks and struts on my 2012. I didn’t mess with the leafs and the ride is 100x better. If you’ve carried some weight a lot I’d do the rear too.

 

good to hear! I am about to do the same thing. Have front & rear shocks/struts/coils from a 2018 TRD sport (<10k mi on em) I'm going to throw on my 05' 2nd gen TRD Sport. Should be a HUGE upgrade.
I have leafs from a 3rd Gen too i'm going to throw on the back. back right leafs are cracked on mine.
last piece is getting some new control arms.
was a little concerned the 3rd gen suspension wouldnt fix exactly. anyone here know for 100% these are all swap-able components?

What are your measurements from Center of hub to fender? front and back.

 

I just finished finished my trd pro shock swap. It was a pretty easy DIY job. Gained 3in in front and 0in in rear. Will need a AAL in rear to look level. If any needs a write up. Hit me up

3" in the front? Dang. I was hoping it was closer to stock.

 

I've had the TRD FOX 2.5s on my access cab for a year w/ All-Pro 3" leaf springs.

Ride is amazing on pavement and whoops but pretty crap on washboards/corrugations at about any speed. I think it's a bad mix with the expedition springs. Though, front is quite stiff as well.



I don't think I'd do it again. Probably worth biting the bullet on adjustable suspension instead.

 

I'm going to be that guy, why should I buy fox 2.0s over some other cheaper brand... I've heard great things but some people kings are better and cheaper. I just don't want to drop 5k for something I don't know a ton about, or at least confronted you guys for some extra pointers and money spending

 

Fox 2.0s should only be like $1,300 for parts, including a 3-leaf add a leaf (assuming you don't go high enough to need upper control arms). The Fox 2.5 fronts and 2.0 rears, with remote reservoirs, upper control arms, and 3-leaf add a leafs are like $2,600 (without adjusters). If you're not doing anything to tax the shocks (whoops at speed for example), then a 2"diameter shock should be fine. Kings are generally not cheaper. Once you get to the King/ADS/Fox 2.5s, front and rear, they're all pretty similarly priced (~$3,000 for parts with a 3-leaf add a leaf and upper control arms).

 

The fox I found has all new leafs, front shocks, rear shocks, reservoirs all around and also a front diff drop with upper control arms. And the kings have all that stuff, even control arms just for about 500~1000 cheaper

 

Any idea on how much 2017 TRD pro shocks and struts with 30k miles should go for?

 

2 grand maybe.. 3 grand or more for new set, if you can get them,, my dealer wanted over 1200.00 for drivers side front only.. FOX..
