My first gen was a regular cab and I opened the slider all the time. My '05 was an access cab and I never opened it because it was a PITA to get to it. After reading several threads about adding a powered sliding back window to 2nd gen's and 3rd gen double cabs, I wanted to do this mod on my '17 TRD Sport AC and keep it as close to stock as possible.

One member used new parts for his conversion and that cost was close to $1,000. Others have converted using Ben WA's 2005+ Power sliding Rear Window Quick Install kit. I decided to go a different route using used Tacoma parts. A search on Car-parts.com turned up a complete window assembly at a yard 20 miles from me. I ended up getting the window, cable assembly, motor, mounting bracket, switch pod and cable connectors for $450.

A local body shop quoted $65 to swap out the window. It would have cost me close to $50 for the tool and adhesive to do it myself. So that was a no brainer. Once the window is in I'll need to make a couple of brackets to mount the motor, run two wires to the dash and wire in two relays. Hopefully it will go smoothly... 20190205_131758.jpg 20190205_132132.jpg

Note the clearance notch under the switch. This might cause a problem if the switch was mounted in a regular pod. A window switch from a Sienna would fit into a regular opening.

Wiring looks fairly simple. Two wires go to the motor. Polarity is reversed by the relays.

Planning on it. I won't be doing too much until the window gets installed.

Thank you for that post. I can confirm that the plug for the cargo light switch is there and has power. I tapped into it for my front/back camera switch lighting. The plug for the sliding rear window switch is also there. Not sure where it goes, but if it is active, I can tap into it for the switch lighting.

The relay panel has two empty spaces with no connectors in them and one empty one with connectors. I'll check if the one with the connectors is for the cargo lights.

I will be working on the dash wiring today.

I removed the rear panels and seats for the window and motor install.

    Not much
I'm very interested in this mod as well. The operable ( manual) window in my truck is really useless IMO without a power option. Good luck with this.

Both plugs are powered for switch illumination and the sliding window switch's white/black is connected to ground.

    Switch and relay wiring:
Terminals 1 and 8 from the new plug will connect to 1 & 8 on the factory plug for switch illumination. Terminal 2, (ground for switch connections for relay coils), will also be connected to the factory plug.

New plug terminal 4 will go to the relay coil 2 to activate it for closing (down in diagram) and terminal 6 will go to the other relay coil to activate it for opening (down). Then 2 wires will go from the relays back to the window motor.

When the switch is moved to "Up", relay 1 sends 12v to motor terminal 1 and 2 goes to ground, opening the window. That polarity is reversed by relay 2 when the switch is moved to "Down" and the window closes.

I’ve had my 17 for just shy of two years and have opened the back window twice. If it was powered I’m sure I would use it more often but it isn’t worth $500 to me to do the mod.
