okay, I know this sounds stupid, but I absolutely fucking hate looking at the stuff that hangs down below the entire frame on my 3rd gen right below the shifter. It’s visible from across any parking lot and if it’s not too much hassle, I’d very much like to get rid of it. So what exactly is it, and how much of a PITA is it to get rid of ? There’s a picture attached here somewhere

I’m pretty sure your transfer case and your exhaust, neither of which you “need”

Lol, i knew I’d catch shit for this thread. That’s fine. Just didn’t know exactly what I was looking at. Was hoping the answer would be something like “oh just buy the TRD catback exhaust and it goes away!” Which would give me an excuse to spend money.

    Oh well

Run and open header exhaust, 2wd conversion and the metal bars can be unbolted. They're just there to protect the cats you won't have after running open headers.

The TRD exhaust isn’t going to do anything. Like others here have said you can reroute the exhaust and cover up the tcase.

the exhaust pipe is re-routable and that's recommended for performance or clearance. the other is a cross member that you can remove if you like. or do like @JaCado and armor up.

EDIT: and by the way you can get that exhaust re routed for pretty cheap. some for around $100.
