    Has anyone experienced this?

I have been looking at the MBRP 3" catback or just having a dynomax Ultraflow muffler put in.

I was told more recently that this kind of mod would add a bit of power up top at the loss of low end. True? False?

I do tow an Rpod in the summer (3300lbs-ish loaded)

Whoever told you an aftermarket exhaust will add anything but more noise is playing you for a fool.

As for the loss of power, it may be DUE to the exhaust or you may have a leak.

Exhaust systems that flow more CAN cause a loss of torque in the lower rpm range. How much and if is any ones guess. It is not as simple as saying I will bolt on a cat back or a CAI and look I gained XX HP and TQ. Most of the time the gains are either very minimal at best or a loss at worst. A CAI and a cat back exhaust CAN be part of the puzzle to higher performance if other steps are taken as well. But by themselves they usually don't do much.

Want to bolt up a trash can and a bag of kazoos? Not gonna affect your torque or power in the least.

By the time the exhaust gets past the cats, there's really no function to the rest of the system except for muffling and directing the fumes around. All the "tuning" is done in the manifolds prior to the first resonator. As long as it's not restrictive (which the stock exhaust isn't), no cat-back exhaust in the world is going to make a single bit of difference to performance.

What you gain up top...you lose on the bottom.

i went up to 2 1/2 after the cat with a freeflowing magnaflow muffler, and have definitely lost bottom end, but now my optimum mpg and cruising speed on fwy are atleast 5- 10 mph faster. still getting 17mpg
