What optics do you all like on your 22s? Im looking for something like a fixed 3x or variable but relatively low magnification. Like a 1-4 or 2-7.

Something with an adjustable objective and thin crosshairs.

It is a little more power than you want, but I have had great luck with the Nikon Target EFR 3-9 X 40...great rimfire scope.

I have a Nikon p rimfire 2-7 on mine. It’s sweet. Last time I checked there were 2 versions. 1 with a bdc reticle and the 1 that I got in which you adjust the elevation knob for preset distances. I’m real happy with it, nice clear glass and not expensive. With the bdc reticle you can use nikon’s spot on app and it gives you holdover points in the reticle for different distances for any load you like from sub sonic to hyper sonic.

FVSR comes w/ a rail and no sights or sight mounts. Going w/ glass on this one for sure.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

That sounds like an interesting feature.

    Thanks guys!

If you've had good luck with Athlon, go that way. It's what you're familiar with. It has more power...they both focus down to 10 yards. Personally, when doing "fine" rimfire or airgun work, I find a mil-dot distracting, and I like having a tiny dot right in the middle of the crosshairs. Just my taste...
I have two of the Nikons, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another. Another nice one is the Leupold Freedom 3-9 X 33 EFR, but it is a step up in price range.

I would go with Athlon the field of view is a whole lot bigger you can see the whole elephant in 30 yards with Nikon you can't even see the whole squirrel.

This made me curious, so I looked up the specs...

Athlon FOV @ 100 yards: max power...8.9 feet. Min power...34.1 feet
Nikon FOV @ 100 yards: max power...11.5 feet. Min power 33.5 feet

    That's a big squirrel!

I don't plan on taking a shot at a squirrel at 100yds so it should suffice. If that was the goal I'd be taking the 24 power off my 223 bolt :D

Sometimes manufacturers give false advertise on their products you really have to buy both and compare them yourself to figure out. Nikon glass clarity is acceptional but never give a good amount field of view as the Athlon does. I have a Nikon Prostaff real tree 3x9-40 and also an Athlon Neos 3x9-40, the field of view between these two are night&day different.

Mounted up the Athlon scope last night and put it in the stock off my other MKII. Only shot paper at 50 yds but I put a few on the 200yd steel plates. Ran a couple mags and pulled a boresnake through the barrel to break it in. Then got down to business on paper.

First group ever through this rifle!

Once it was sighted in I shot this one

Shot a couple more groups, CCI standard and Federal gold medal target. These were 10 round groups, very happy.

Then I finished up my day shooting a little bit of everything to see what it likes. So far CCI standard and Federal Gold target are in the lead.

This was a brand new action and accuracy wise it was a big fan of CCI standard. However it failed to extract ALL THE TIME just like my other MKII FV SR. I didn't have any issues extracting w/ the CCI Velocitor or any of the other ammo. Not sure what could be causing it. I even would shot 10 rounds of CCI and it would fail to extract, fire 10 rounds of anything else and it would be fine then back to CCI and it would continue to fail. Very odd.

Try some federal gold medal match. My 10/22 absolutely eats that stuff up. Groups are 1 ragged hole

Never bought a gun, all mine are hand me downs. Out of all of them, this one, Savage Model- 25 and I have a 32 Walther PP, are the most fun to shoot.
