Mine is multi use. Though, not my DD. I have a service van, and a Charger.

I use it for trips to Lowes, hauling the mountain bikes, or the family. It replaced my Jeep, so, wheeling duty as well.

Trucks are so popular because of the ability to do so many different things.

Twelve years ago when I bought my Tacoma it was our "nice" vehicle for longer trips. At the time my wife was driving an econo-box Ford Focus and I traded in a 2002 F-150 Supercrew 4X4 to get the Tacoma. We've since upgraded to a Honda car. My youngest had just moved out of the house and I didn't need a big truck anymore. During the 1st 9 years it was used for everything. It was my hunting rig, travel rig, and firewood hauling rig (with a trailer) and go to church on Sunday rig. It made 3 cross country trips from GA to Colorado and to other western states along with multiple trips to Florida other eastern states. It pulled my pop-up all over the southeast.

I've never used it for hard core off roading. Got that out of my system in my 20's and 30's driving beater 4X4's. I don't understand spending $40 to beat one up off road. I did my hard core off road driving with older trucks and SUVs. If I totaled it, it wasn't a great loss. Today I'll trailer an ATV to an off road site if I get the urge. Much better off road performance and a lot less expensive. But I've not been afraid to use it off road either. It has been in some bad places while hunting and hauling firewood. I've been in a foot of snow several times in Colorado and the occasional snow storm here in GA.

About 3 years ago we reached the point where a bigger truck was needed, plus the Tacoma was closing in on 170,000 miles. The Tacoma was worth more to me to keep rather than trade though. I bought a 2 year old 2014 F-150 Supercrew 4X4 and kept both the Honda and Tacoma. For the last 3 years I've driven the Honda mostly around town, the Ford gets used when we need it. The Tacoma has become my wife's daily driver and the one used for hauling the trash off. I still use it for hauling firewood and hunting locally. My wife is into gardening and craft work and she has loved having a truck of her own for that stuff. I was averaging about 20K per year on it. About 10K per year now and at that rate I expect at least another 10 years out of it. At that point I may consider using it as a hard core off road beater. Or at least let my grand kids have it for that.

Mine is just a fun truck, used for local fishing, hiking, trail blazing, and exploring with the kids/grandkids 20%... light tow/haul another 20% (includes Costco runs), and trailer camping about 10% of annual miles. Retired, so not a daily driver... with the exception of occasional local mall crawling and utilization in place of wife’s GL550 (used for long distance travel), just to keep her mileage down somewhat. No real off roading or rock crawling (after all, my truck IS a Limited)... just not into that level of risk anymore.

I know I would not buy a $40k truck and see if I could get it stuck up to the door handles or try to flip it crawling over a rock the size of a VW bug. I guess it boils down to how much 40 grand is worth to you.

    Stock....ish
I use mine for a wide variety of things. I would say 90% mall crawling/dd, 9% offroad 1% towing,

I am easy on mine, but I bought it to enjoy it.
Could have kept the F-350, but it wasn't much fun in the mountains and I couldn't afford both..

For us, it was a matter of practicality.

I have a modded '93 Jeep YJ that is probably (for us) the most capable off road vehicle for our needs. However I disabled the AC, runs topless/doorless and literally takes us up into the Mountains at a moments notice!

However, the '93 YJ is NOT highway friendly. Will it do it...Yes..is it fun...not really (I am too lazy to reconnect the swaybar disconnects...lol). Thankfully I have access to the fire roads and trails within a few minutes so it fits the bill.

We got our 2019 Tacoma for DIFFERENT reasons. Can it handle all of that....100% yes but until I lift it and put some armor on it wont be our go to hard crawling rig.

I have plans...soooo many plans....but to be honest now that we are not looking for "terrain", the Tacoma was the best fit for us. AC, Nice and roomy, can haul "stuff" and it does really well on the highway.

I have used it for my DD for the past 3 weeks and it is just simply nice to get around in. It is not a Porsche, it is not a Stock Jeep, it is not a Prius...but it is a nice ride for us.

So at this point the Taco is a DD and this spring I will do the "wanted" not "needed" modifications to it so that it will come "close" to my off-road rig.

Would I look at something else...sure...but I really love this "TACO" and she will be in our stable of vehicles for a LONG, LONG time.

Exactly... I sold my C300 Mercedes and bought this truck just to do “truck” stuff with the family. I wanted to enjoy the unique capabilities and outdoor utilization, however not to the point of extream modification or off road distruction. My $ objective is to minimize lost value as well, won’t cost 40K if I maintain condition properly and sell at peak value return point (somewhere around the three to four year mark)... should only cost me around 10K or so.

Mine seems to have a secondary function of getting the apathetic/disgusted face from the local townsfolk.

Woah woah now... Montana IS the land of fruit and honey!!

Daily driver here. Haul a trailer to the dump with it, sheet rock and plywood, diy house trash to the dump, maybe even a body if I ever need to.
