need suggestions for tint, step and seat cover

Need suggestions:

Everything is stock on my 2018 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 and only plan to do minor upgrades like tint, steps, car covers etc for now. Can only spare $1000-$1100 at most for all 3.

A. Llumar Ceramic Tint (T&T Tinting) - how dark (light-35%, medium-15%, dark 5%) to go on rear/back windows, dealer says if I go with the darkest tint on top of the privacy coating, may affect visibility? In my state the law is "On trucks, vans, and SUVs, all front side windows must allow at least 35% of visible light through the window, while rear side windows can have any strength tint"

B. Steps- need a step to help my elderly parents get in/out, not too narrow...one has balance problems and the other is under 5 ft with joint issues...small sacrifice for my parents who dealt with the bs I put them thru looked at these

C. Clazzio seat covers: Updated Vinyl or Leather...I was thinking Black on Black on Black, I'm a classic type of gal. lol The price is the determining factor. and it'll cost extra shipping since I live in Hawaii!

NOTE: Please be patient with me...I'm new to the world of truck lingo, modifications, mechanics etc but eager and willing to learn! I apologize for the long entry...lots to learn!

50% on the front glass Llumar is good stuff, Predator steps are nice and will help with the lower step and Clazzio leather,no PVC!

 

My suggestion for the step is to find one that doesn't just follow the rocker but has true step ups on it. I have the factory Toyota aluminum side step. It really only helps get my pants dirty when I get out .

 

I second @mds08. Clazzios are a MUST! They are extremely nice and make it look Factory. You will not regret this one at all. FTW! I love my Predator Steps

 

Dealers sub out tint work. Do your own sub out work and save money.

Find a quality tint shop that's been in business a long time (mine has been 30+ years, same owner!). Generally a shop that does tint, alarms and wheels is not what you want. A shop that does vehicles, residential and commercial buildings is likely a better choice.

A good shop will have high end product (like Llumar) and give excellent warranty. They will also know what the laws of your state allow, and not exceed that, because they 'sign their work'. So if you are ticketed by a zealous (but wrong) officer, they'll gladly provide evidence that the work is legal.

Most will have product samples installed on their shop windows so you can compare product in advance.

Keep in mind that tint has nothing to do with immediate usability of the vehicle, ie you don't have to have it today. Give yourself time to find the right shop and right product for you.

 

The older I get the less dark I like my tint, especially for backing in the dark purposes The rear factory tinted glass is 20%ish. I always got my vehicles to match by doing the fronts in 20%.

Based on your state laws I would have the fronts done at 35% and see if you like that before doing the back windows. You can always take it back and have them done later, removing unwanted tint can be a PITA.

 

I got the matching Tint to the back windows.

I got Tyger side bars. They give you a little more protection than an OEM bar, but not to be mistaken for Sliders...

Welcome to TW! The tube style bars seem more useful for door protection than as actual steps. I would look for something with a real step built in if you don't need the clearance.

Clazzios are on my wish list. Only problem with Black is it shows every speck of dust and dirt if you are concerned with that.

I also had the tint shop match the front windows to the rear. That worked out the the Texas max of 25%. Added a little extra (can't remember the %) to the rear slider. No problem seeing out at night and a much appreciated cooler inside especially if the sun is on your arm or side of face.
