Hello TW! I’m on the fence of wanting a truck cap and not really wanting one....

Anyone willing to share thoughts/Pros/Cons. Etc..
    Thanks

I bought mine off Craigslist on a wim, and honestly can’t see myself without one. Security and peace of mind is everything. Only downfall is loading up tall items. But I have yet to have an instance where I need to take the cap off.

If you haul large items regularly (larger than the boxes in pic) it’s a pain the in the ass taking off and putting on. I like an open bed for access and park in garage, so nobody is screwing with stuff left in the bed.

However, if you never have to take the cap off and will use it for camping, etc they’re a good deal.

Sorry for the grainy quality but theres my 18 with a ARE V on it. I absolutely love it and had been searching for one for 6+ months before finding one for $800 on Facebook Marketplace. Can't really say I have any complaints about it other than the fact that the rear or my truck sags just a little bit in the rear, but not completely noticeably unless you really look for it. Have since then added 265/75/16 Falken Wildpeaks, and Spidertrax 1.25 wheel spacers. Probably be adding a lift as well in the next month or two.

Softopper is nice because you get ahold mix of everything. It’s lightweight, cab high, well built and can be folded up or taken on / off in a few minutes.

I’d argue it’s no more or less secure than a topper. You can cut it or just open it up but thatsjust as easy as you could bust out a window if someone wanted in. I have no windows in mine so I’m not really worried about it.

I'm in the same boat. Wife saw one in our color and loved it, but I don't have a need for one. The extra weight would certainly change your gas mileage, but I'm sure not by much.

Canopy fan here. I put them on all my trucks and Im always very happy with them. It’s nice to have the secure storage and keep things out of the weather. I could go on and on about the positives but the list of negatives is very short

Despite what people say, my gas mileage actually improved when I installed my topper.

I have an inexpensive ($800 or so) black aluminum canopy with screened sliding side windows and a sliding front window. It rides on a barcelona red vehicle, so not color matched. The canopy goes on sometime in the fall when the weather starts to turn and comes off come March or so. During the winter I take a lot of hunting trips and need it for covering / securing gear that won't fit in the cab. I prefer having the canopy off for general driving though.

This is the arrangement I've always used with my pickup trucks. Used to be I could put on / take off the canopy by myself, although it was always a little awkward; now I need help. If you don't mind the aesthetics, it's a good arrangement.
