Key fob holder

Does anyone make something like a key fob holder / protector to put my key fob in I keep feeling like when I drop it that it will break and illI be stranded...this is my first non key car / no tangible key and it sorta bothers me

I've dropped the stock one plenty of times, just got a little scratched up. It shouldn't break that easily, and if it does, you still might be able to use it to get the truck started.

 

Since you won't have to take it out of your pocket there's little reason you should be dropping it with any frequency.

 

There is a KEY in the FOB... Don't worry about a cover.... it's OK as is....

 

These fobs are bulletproof in my experience.
Mine's been SCUBA diving @ 30' for over an hour with no ill effect. Accidental, but nonetheless..
You could probably drop it every day, for every day of your vehicle ownership without failure.

 

The key thats in the fob only opens the tailgate right?

 

Yes. Not sure how that'd be useful to start the truck if your fob was damaged.

 

Depends on the year. The 2016's key is for the door and the glovebox, with a separate key altogether for the tailgate.

 

I second the AJT fob. I have dropped mine numerous times on asphalt, tile etc and have had zero cracks or chips. It gives it a rugged look and so far has been rugged against the abuse I’ve given it. I’ve gotten many compliments on it as well.

 

I have one of these, my biggest gripe is the rubber grips the inside of my pockets adding some slight frustration when trying to take it out.

 

I may have misspoke , but with so many different config's, how can your not.

I wan talking about my 2016 TRD sport...…separate T/G key…… The key in FOB opens door/glove box. Thereby getting you in the truck, then just rough the rear of the FOB to the start button while brake on.

 

I have that rubber case but have my fob on a lanyard. Since the fob is hanging from my neck, the rubber case keeps the fob dry and clean and no trouble getting it out of my pocket.

 

I have the same, my gripe is that all my pocket lint sticks to it and looks like crap.

 

Has anyone ever drooped their key fob in water or put it through the washer accidentally? If so did it still work?

 

Yup. My lady washed my jeans with my key in it. Took it out. Let it air dry and works like it never happened.

Edit- I took it apart and let it air dry

 

I have the same holder. I like that it grips. Going for a run, walking the dog, at the gym, doesn’t fall out. I don’t take my key out of my pocket on a daily basis (jeans) so it’s perfect for my use but I could see t being a hassle for some people who have a different use for it. For me, it’s perfect. I need the grip.

 

Call me old fashioned but I'd just rather have a actual mechanical key...I don't like this push button start key fob crap...I was just at the beach and missing my old mechanical key.

 

I mean what if you had been camping or something when you soaked your fob? I just don't feel like this key fob stuff is conducive to I'm guessing a lot of Tacoma owner's lifestyles...I wonder if they considered that at all?
