Anybody running a Leitner Designs bed rack or any type of tall bed rack w/ a hard shell RTT? Looking at this type of set up but I need to clear the shark fin on a gen 3 DCSB and hopefully also clear a prinsu because I don’t want it hanging out over the back past the tailgate

So you want the tent to hang over the cab?

I have a 2nd gen with 13" over bedsides rack (short bed rack on long bed), and my tent hangs over the tailgate by 7"

Yup over the cab. Most hard shell RTTs are super long and would hang way over the back on lower bed racks on short beds. I’d like to run a prinsu to deflect air over the tent as well as to carry stuff and have a light bar

I think @dziner had a hardshell over cab. 2nd gen though.

    I don't know any 3rd gen guys.

I think there was a conversation about the hangover part. Someone didnt want 12" off the back. I cant remember though

Link below. Looks like the black straps are no longer available, but there’s blue and red. I originally planned on doing buckles, but these allow me to really put my weight into it and tighten the tent without fear of breaking anything. I’ve added a 2 inch memory foam pad so I really need to be able to tighten it.

Just cut the two ends off to size and screw them into the existing attachment points. Took about 5 minutes in all.

Edit: Now the link is below.

Thanks for the link. I just added a 2" memory foam topper under the original foam mattress as well and had to sit on each edge of the tant to get it to close enough.

So I order those 4' straps, went with red so that way they stand out and I remember to undo them before trying to open the tent... Just installed them today. I only got 2 since I only need them for one side, the end that doesn't have the hinges since that is always the hardest to get cinched down good with an additional 2" memory foam topper and my Tepui sleeping bad still in there. They work really good, much easier than climbing on the rack to sit on a corner and hope the velcro strap stays put.

They are riveted in place, with a small, 1" x 2" piece of aluminum sandwiched between the halves.

I'd be careful leaving it underneath if you don't have an anti-condensation mat. I wouldn't want the memory foam soaking up the condensation vs. the original mattress, since that one has a cover

Both of them get pulled out of the tent after a trip so they can air out. I'll have to look into getting an anti-condensation mat tho.

IMO I'd just swap the original mattress to the bottom and the memory foam on top

Well, when I was trying them out together in the house, I found that I liked the feel with the memory foam under the original. I'll see how it goes.

How thick are the anti-condensation mats? The one from CVT looks like about 1" or so, still looking around tho.

So what extra foam mattresses/padding are people using? I need a little more than the standard mattress provides.
