The NISMO, even though it has a tiny bit more HP, is still over a half second slower on a 0-60 run. I've driven a regular 370Z and it is nowhere near the same level as this. Basing the potential of this Supra off the BMW M240i (a small coupe I've been in with nearly the exact same powertrain), it'll more than blow it out of the water in every single aspect.
The Z is an outdated car with an especially hideous and cheap feeling interior, as most other Nissan products. The B58 is an amazing engine and feels far more powerful than the numbers suggest, I suppose the wave of torque from down low really helps out in it feeling/being so much quicker than a comparable NA engine.

I feel like it wasn't so much Toyota's decision not releasing this car with a manual transmission as it was BMW. This is a real shame because they know how to make an excellent shifting manual, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to find any because automatics rule the market. That being said the ZF is an excellent quick-shifting auto.

Wouldn't it be easier to make comparisons to the BMW Z4 instead?

Yes, but I’m just comparing what I’ve driven. The M240i felt like a completely better car in every way to me. Even the auto 228i (2.0 turbo) felt more fun to drive than the auto 370z.

I wanted to buy a 370z but was just really underwhelmed

I agree about the vents. Seems like a Toyota go-to to have fake vents (see Tacoma hood).

Targa on the other hand is leaky. Everyone that has ever had a targa top or t-top has had leaks. I say coupe or full convertible only
Active spoilers aren’t necessary on a car with these performance numbers. It isn’t a P1

That sucks. What did Toyota actually engineer here?
It was too good to be true. Nice looking car though.
    Just dont want a bmw.

So glad everyone on here seems to have a similar opinion. All of the Toyota groups on social media are in is full of supporters telling everyone else that the only reason they don't like it is because they can't afford it. For 50k I could restore a mk4 and actually have a Toyota (granted the mk4s look sorta like bmws too but that's not the point). Not only is the engine a BMW engine but they totally ripped off the design of the Z4, especially in the interior, and imo it's soooooo ugly. It would have been nice to see Toyota make an engine for a super car, mostly for reliability because fuck working on a BMW but it would be cool to see what they'd do with it, if they'd base it off of the 2jz or do something else entirely. I mean I get it, Toyota's main audience these days are overlanders and people who rock coexist bumper stickers but I think it would have been better received by a wider audience. I guess we should have seen it coming, as they've worked with a lot of other manufactures to make weird cars in the past, whether they were rebadged like the Toyota Cavalier etc. The only people I can see buying this steaming pile of garbage are cosmetic surgeons and people who are looking for a fast car with a fat stack of cash in hand and just happen to choose the Supra out of the rest. meh.
But what do I know? I daily a Corolla with neon green hubcaps and throw all of my money at truck parts.

Guess I am in the minority here.

I think it looks great. BMW is not the unreliable car maker that it once was.

Take away all the controversy, and it is a great car all around. I don't think Toyota believes it will sell too many of these, and that's why it didn't invest huge cost into developing it.

If people really liked Toyota sports cars, they would have bought them. Every single Toyota sports car was cancelled due to low sales. even the GT86 is probably on the chopping block.

Maybe Toyota really doesn't know how to make sports cars and that's why they have to collaborate with Subaru and BMW.

Look at the RCF--- people don't care about that car.

Toyota designed the body sheetmetal and had some input on the overall configuration (wheelbase, track, weight range...). Of course, designing sheetmetal nowadays isn't trivial since it involves quite a bit of windtunnel work. I think first impressions by anyone driving the Supra will be quite good though. BMW engines are traditionally fairly torquey and make very useable power (when they're working), and ride/handling are usually best in the business. Long-term reliability and ease of repair are expected to be as bad as most BMW M cars, however.

Unlike Mustang/Camaro fans, most diehard Supra fans didn't/couldn't buy a Supra. Can't fault Toyota for trying to make a sports car that actually sells... Thanks for posting the link, some interesting details!

Not a big fan of the looks out the box but would like to see how the aftermarket support will be on this.
