I need to drill an extra hole in the side of the bed where the holes that the factory accessory rails are. Has anyone tried drilling an extra hole here before?

What's it for? Through the track? Through the top? Slot nuts fit the track if you just want to bolt something on.

Directly behind the rail, along the same metal strip as the other holes. I’ll see if I can find/take a picture to be more specific

So are you removing the rail or drilling through it? The only issue I think is the clips that hold the cap down but I think you'll be below those anyway.

These rails have 4 screws holding them to the side of the bed. I need to remove the rails and drill one additional hole next to an existing hole in the side of the bed (not the rail). I have a 2019 short bed.

They use rivnuts(like a short, fat, molly bolt or threaded insert)for most bed attachments so the existing holes will have these not just a hole with a removable nut/washer. Rivnuts allow you to drill and bolt without accessing the backside for nut/washer placement. I like to prime the raw metal after drilling. Shouldn't be a problem to drill another hole there to one side. At the back end there is sheet metal in front of the tail light space and behind the end of the rail you would need to avoid but that can be seen by lying on your back behind the wheel and looking up.
