Totally torn on short or long bed...

Thanks for all the replies already. It will be a double cab. I am aware the PRO is only a SB, there is where my dilemma lies. I am just north of NYC and do go to the city often so that was another thing to consider as well. Plus my wife would drive it into the city instead of the Tesla as she won't park that on the street or in a parking garage for that matter. For the PRO not the worth the extra $$, to me that's irrelevant. I am far past the modding everything I buy anymore to save a few bucks on the front end. LOL.

I want to lean towards a PRO for cool factor, but will probably end up with an OR LB.

 

There is also a key question that hasn't been addressed is offroading and what the OP really needs. What are his intentions with the truck besides hauling his toys.

 

Some of you are acting like it’s the difference between a half ton and one ton. It’s a small truck and 1ft in bed length is pretty insignificant

 

Yeah I rolled that up under the decreased maneuverability. He basically needs to assign each item a level of importance and then just do the math.

That’s is seriously the reason I got a SB! I would have got a LB if they had a stick shift option.

Then figure out what you will actually need out of the truck. Also if looks matter to you. IMO the pro looks a lot better but they both can be pretty much outfitted the same as far as gadgets go.

Short bed for me. I can drop the tail if any extra length is needed. I’ve also thought about buying the bed extender if it becomes a constant need for space. A big plus also was being able to park in a closed garage. As others have said parking in general is easier. So far no regrets. Just my two cents. Best of luck in your decision!

 

I vote short bed. If you really need to haul stuff, I'd go with the Tundra or F150.

 

I heavily considered a 6' bed this time around (this one replacing the Gen1 DC I've had for 17 years). I'd been eyeing the FJ Cruisers for quite a while, but that didn't make a lot of sense. Throwing firewood and dead deer and elk in the back of an FJ and tearing up the interior ultimately led me to return to a DCSB as my compromise.

I can squeeze all I need for a 2 week outing into a DCSB (and it is a squeeze). The downsides of a LB for me were the additional issues with parking (I visit a lot of buildings with underground garages, and those are always tight), maneuverability off road, and lastly looks. I do prefer the looks of the short bed.

I can still fit a bull elk in the back with the tailgate down and haul camp wood. The extra foot would be nice for camp gear, but in reality, I bring more than I need now anyway, and it keeps me "in check" from bringing too much crap.

The SB just made more sense all the way around from an off and on road size and maneuverability standpoint. The shortcomings of the SB weren't enough to make me buy a truck I didn't particularly like the looks of.

 

Go long young man, go long. For trips you wont regret it. My wife brings enough shit on vacation, I could use a couple Sherpas to unload it.

 

For me, I decided on a DCLB......
Pros- Easier to put longer motorcycles/snowmobiles in the bed.......Lots of room for my kids car seat in the back....
Cons- Manual transmission not available on 2018 LB’s.............Makes for a tighter fit in my garage.....

No regrets though. Happy hunting.

I remember when a long bed was 8 foot.

I honestly took my driving test in my moms 1975 98 Olds. Just like this one except hers was midnight blue. I had to parallel park that beast and there was snow on the roads.



I think the short beds look kinda odd with the wheel wells so close to the cab.
