Quick question for you guys that have added 3rd gen suspension to a 2nd gen... Did you need anything for the rear once you put the newer shocks on? I know the springs are a little stronger, so I might get a small 1-inch lift in the front, maybe, which is all I really want/need.

Did any of you go with an AAL, 3-leaf, or something, or just used the new shocks from the 3rd gen?

I'm putting literally brand new (400 miles) suspension from a 2019 TRD OR on my truck, as mine are old, worn out, and one of my front shocks might have a small leak. I'm wondering if it's just a straight swap, then maybe I can let it settle a bit and decide on the back. idk.

Also, I believe the previous owner put caps on my current shocks to level it out, or for the taco lean, but I'm not 100% sure. I'll go take some pictures so we can all be on the same page. Thanks!!

    It's a straight swap.

Right. Well, that's what I've read. At the same time, it sounds like the 3rd gen coils are a little stronger and will raise the front up a tiny bit. Which is why I mentioned the possible need for an AAL or something.

Or I guess the rear shocks match and will keep it fairly balanced.

The suspension is the same between both gens. Used the same springs as 2nd gens also.

Are you sure.. I've heard the springs are slightly different.

Ok guys.. are these spacers the previous owner put on, or do the shocks come like this stock?

The silver top plate. (It's on both sides, too) So it's not for taco lean.

With 98k miles.. my shocks look pretty "worn" I think. Or no?

They look like top plate spacers. I also had heard you should get about an inch lift going to the 3rd gen springs. If you’re just changing shocks/struts. You won’t see any lift. Are you getting the 3rd gen springs as well? If so I just recently asked if they are side specific. They are.

Have you done the 3rd gen coilovers yet? What, if any, is the comparison to stock 2nd gen suspension besides the 1” lift? On and off road?
