    Hi there.

Just purchased an ARE CX Revo cap for my newly purchased (1 week ago) 2018 Tacoma TRD Quad Cab Sport. Cap will arrive in 4-5 weeks. The CX Revo was about a $150 more than the CX Evolve with a few options (light switch, sliding front tilt window etc) so I went with the Revo that has many of the feature creature options standard.

I also like the look of the CX Revo cap best of all the ARE and Leer caps I looked at. The molded frameless rear window looks great and I think will seal well and keep the weather out. I went with the tilt sliding front window and the solid, frameless all glass side windows.

How important are vented side windows? My though is that I'd get enough air movement from the front sliding window. I don't have a dog and won't be using the cap as a camping shell. The cap will be primarily used to make the truck more useful for carrying tools and gear and keeping them out of the weather.

    Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

If you really don't think you'll use the side windows then you should be good to go. On the other hand, if there's even the slightest chance you'll camp out of it, carry dogs, toss wet stuff in the back, etc. then I would call them up and change it to sliders and honestly, even if you're not going to do any of that, I'd still get the windoors. They make getting stuff out of the bed easier than having to climb in the back. It's far cheaper to have them come on the shell then to try to add them later when ARE wants like $400/each. My biggest regret with my ARE is not getting the sliding windoors.

I'd also recommend the drop down sliding front window so that you can clean the glass without taking the top off.

I am planning to get that exact same cap (CX Revo) when I get some $ together. Seems like they really thought out that rear window and I do like the look. Years ago I had an F-250 crew cab with an ARE shell and I think I opened the side windows only a few times. I did not open them for camping because the only camping I did in it was in cold weather (October/November). I can see if you are planning to sleep in it during summer months, you would want them to be able to open. I will say that one time, I did forget to slide the windows closed and it rained like hell. And, I didn't realize that it happened until a couple of days later. Ended up with a bunch of wet stuff.
I would be very interested in your thoughts on the cap once you get it. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll post an update after I get the cap. I’m expecting the cap mid January.

Decided to not get the vented side windows. The frameless window was a deciding factor in getting this cap and the side vented window option with this cap didn’t seem like the greatest design. If I wanted the vented side windows I would have gotten the Evolve with the traditional aluminum framed window with the slider.

Time will tell if I made the right decision........

Had my CX Revo installed yesterday and I love it. I got the solid one piece glass because I don't plan on using it to camp either. And my dog will not ride in the bed of my truck. I also figured less moving parts to have to replace later down the road.20190111_154658.jpg

My ARE CX Revo cap finally arrived. Had it installed yesterday. First impressions - I like it!

The alignment / fit to the truck box and cab is excellent. Color match is an OEM match. I like the look of this cap. The frameless side glass and back window are nice looking.

The LED dome light is plenty bright for night time. Only complaint is that the installer wired the cap dome light to the park lights. That'll be changed when I return in a month's time to check for any issues with the cap and install. I want the cap dome light to be available at all times so it'll be a fused power source to the battery. The Revo cap comes with a magnetic ActiveTilt switch so there's not much of a concern with running down the battery.

The installer did attempt to seal between the ends of the tonneau rail and side rails. We'll see how that works out.

Sorry for the crappy pics. It's winter......

Does anybody have this cap with the compression boot instead of the front glass?

If you have dogs riding in the back the slider is super nice. My dogs love the sliders

ARE stopped production on the Revo and Evolve cap. I order one three weeks ago and was refunded my money. ARE are having issues with rear hinges coming apart. They offered $200 off of a z series cap but wasn’t interested.

Company I work for does a lot of business with Action so I got a discount. I’m guessing retail is about $3000 before taxes and installation. Not the cheapest cap but it does look good. No complaints so far.

Anyone hear about these caps coming back with the hinges fixed? It says the Evolve and Revo will be “available soon” on their website

Long story short, at least a month.

I've had a CX Revo on my Tacoma for 3 months now and I've really liked it. However last week one of the hinged sheered off completely. The door has only seen normal use, nothing aggressive. The hinges are bonded on to the glass with some kind of two part urethane but I could tell that it's hadn't fully cured, it's was still tacky and malleable in the center of the pad. The dealer hasn't been able to order a replacement, apparently they are not available yet. I talked to ARE customer service today and they basically gave me a verbal shrug and told me it would be about a month before a replacement door could be shipped out. The door is only hanging on by one hinge which is a huge pain in the ass because when you open it the gas shocks torque the remaining hinge and I have to hold down the upper corner with the broken hinge with my hand to keep it from dropping downward and tearing off. Today the bottom latches stopped catching, which is sweet (not really) because I'm on a road trip and concerned that the final hinge is going to fail and it's going to fall off on the highway. I'm going to temporarily glue the broken hinge on tonight until a replacement is sent out. ARE told me doing that won't affect the warranty. Aside from ARE being less than helpful it is a sweet shell. Once they fix that door issue it should be great.

I wish A.R.E. would step up and offer some kind of compensation. I spent $3k on the MFing thing and no one should have to deal with that kind of BS in the first 3 months.

Stupid door issue aside I do like everything else about it.

The hinges was a problem for them. I talked to them a couple weeks ago. They said they’re going to be back on the market between late June to mid-July

C4C011CD-1D3B-4FD8-9EFF-161CB198D996.jpg Have not had the hinge issue (yet)! Just picked up a used revo topper a couple weeks ago. So far so good. Looks pretty good on the truck imo. If you get one with the sliders I would recommend you A) like the look (they are recessed in the main glass) B) make sure you really need them. Other than venting the back for my dogs they are useless as most are.

+1 for older style caps with Windoors if you need utility over style.

Very pleased with my CX Revo. No issues with my door hinges.

I do have a glass issue though. The passenger side glass has a defect - a small sliver of glass has come off. No sign of damage from a flying rock or otherwise. Good thing is that ARE will cover it under warranty. However, my local dealer can't guarantee that they won't damage the paint when they remove the glass. And they're not going to cover any damage caused by the glass removal process. No local glass shop will touch it either. My local dealer and ARE want to ship my cap back to the factory (in the US) so they can replace. Apparently they have a method to remove the glass without damaging the paint. Sounds like a bit much to me. I'm in eastern Canada so I'll be without a cap for 6-8 weeks I figure. It can't be that hard to remove the glass and not damage the cap is it? Anyone?

Mines finally shipping out’ve Ohio on Monday, been waiting months. I was told they were having problems with water leaks, so they redesigned something & finally started up production.

Mine came in yesterday and so far I’m loving it. Definitely worth the wait on them fixing the rear door issue. It’s been raining and the cap itself has no leaks, I just need to silicone seal the gaps that are on the front corners of the bed near the cab. Installers tried using foam tape in there but just needs some silicone. It’s only day 2 with it on and my truck is getting way more looks and compliments than ever before haha
