A capacitor acts as a high pass filter - in other words it blocks lower frequencies. The frequencies blocked are determined by the value of the cap and the impedance of the load. You can install it anywhere between the affected driver(s) and the amp. I use them for tweeters simply for protection (way out of the passband) and install them at the amp since they're kinda big (100 uF). How? Splice the wire to the tweeter wire using solder or a crimp connection. This way I wind up putting one of the cap leads directly into one of the amp's outputs. It doesn't matter which end of the wire as this in an AC circuit but you wanna make sure to buy non-polarized caps. Electrolytic is fine.

Glad I saw this thread, I have been installing my system over the past month here and there when I get the chance to work on it and I've been wanting a full range to go with my component set. Considered A-Pillar pods but has to be custom, with this I can move the tweet to the sail panel and stick my 3.5 in the door! Thanks for the idea

To third I did not use a capacitor I just used connectors so I could still use the factory connections.

It filters out certain bass frequencies so you get no distortion .

Great thanks and its required or not for adding 3.5" in place of the tweeters?

Awesome, thanks. And any idea what type or size would be needed?
