Pretty much, except I had nasty black road icicles hanging off mine all around. Spent $15 at the self wash station when I got home cleaning her up real good

I had mine in my tool box in the bed, but it was buried under 3ft of snow and ice lol. Didn't want to dig it out but next time I'll keep it in the truck. I had a screwdriver handy in the cab and used that but it took awhile

In all honesty I don't mind it, I would still much rather live someplace with winter like that every year than here in the desert. I just learned a few lessons on what to do and what not to do as far as prepping the truck lol.

Question...so when my upper radiator hose cracked on the way up the mountain, it spilled coolant onto the fan which then flung it all over the engine bay.
The mechanic that replaced it for me told me that I'll need to replace my belts when I get home now that they've been exposed to coolant...does that sound right? I've never heard of coolant being abrasive or corrosive or anything like that.

I replaced the belts about a year ago (supercharger and others) and really don't want to do it again if I don't really need to...

Yeah...technically they don't use road salt but they use some other kind of similar chemical that rusts frames. The guy that fixed my radiator hose had an awesome boosted 3rd gen 4runner with a swiss cheese frame, told me it was because of the crap they use on the roads.
Hence why I went straight to the self car wash when I got home tonight lol

He didn't say why exactly, just suggested that I do it when I get the time since they all got exposed to the coolant. Sounded odd to me but figured I'd ask you guys

I guess the coolant causes the belts to deteriorate quicker, supposedly

If it was brake fluid yeah, I could see that for sure...but I didn't think coolant was corrosive like that.

I think it can cause them to slip which will cause premature wear.

Honestly I don't plan on it...they still look fine of course and I'll keep an eye on them.

Coolant can be detrimental to belts... but unless it was the timing belt that got soaked.. don’t worry about it. They’ll squeal way before they go snap

Good to know thanks...timing belt should be fine, it wasn't a big leak just enough to splatter it around. Barely lost any noticeable amount of coolant before I caught it and got it taken care of
