I have a leak only in the corners of my headliner... Seems like a slow drip, but the other it came in hard, then slowed down again. Any suggestions of how to fix?

Ha. I'm trying to avoid it. It has 43K miles on it. I am hoping someone has a sealant they can recommend....

It could be coming in through the third brake light. Here's the TSB with the fix.

Both sides? Brake light. One side could be rack. I have installed two racks in the past and never had leak issues. Light is a known issue at Toyota.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that Toyota won’t fix these even out of warranty. Should have extended it to a higher mileage and year. The damage can be costly and significant. All because some moron forgot to pull the backing off a light housing seal. This type of stuff is the reason I purchase Toyota due to things like this being more prevelant in other manufacturers.

To pull that light, you have to drop the ceiling. If you are ok with sealant on the outside then that might last a few years and take minimal effort.

100% the third brake light. Mine did the exact same thing. I haven’t had the chance to swap it out yet but bought the parts and just used electrical tape on the outside over the seams. Mines out of warranty. I was chasing the leak and thought it was the OEM roof rack so pulled that off and still leaking.

Thanks guys... I poured water and saw it was that damn brake light.. The light is not flush with the body of the vehicle. I will try to seal it from the outside. Any suggestions on a sealer? I saw RTV sealant that I might use.

They turned me down on my window seals because my ext warranty didn’t cover it. But they covered this. I don’t believe my ext covered the third brake light but they went ahead and took care of it. Maybe it covered the leak at the brake light and just not my doors?

Too easy to dismiss a phone call, go in and talk to them in person... this is a squeaky wheel gets the grease sort of situation but be tactful about it. If you're respectful but firm you're likely to get it covered.
