New member, first time Taco owner. Finally taking the new bird up north where it belongs. Will be spending a night in SF. What are the best/most scenic/not too crazy offroad trails along my ways? Car is bone stock and I'm a rookie. Thanks guys!

I would just try to make it up and back.... I would not worry about making your maiden 4wd voyage in the current conditions and the in coming weather. Try to do more informational scouting and trail head locations, but I would not venture off the beaten path without a couple of friends (2 other trucks).

Copy. Thanks, I guess what I'm asking at this point is if there's anything worth stopping for?

Mammoth got 7 ft at base and 10 ft in the higher elevations, just for reference. They are to busy clearing normal roads, let alone trails and back roads. I am sure that's true for the rest of the Sierra mountain range.
Open up Google earth and drop 2 pins and get a Aerial look at the entire trip. Then zoom in along the path you plan to take and see if there are any interesting spots..
You going up the 101, the 5 or you going the entire back way starting on 395??

Nothing on there from here to Sacramento.... unless you guys are interested in nut farms and cattle farms. After that I am not sure.

There are lots of things to do. Just gonna be a hard proposition on this trip because of the snow that’s coming and the stock truck you have... most of the I-5 corridor in Oregon is suppose to get some sort of snow...

Once you get into Shasta on I5 you’ll be in the snow zone. Sometimes they shut it down when it snows and you’ll have to wait til they reopen.

Depends on the amount of snow... some times hours. Some times days... Siskiyou summit has been closed over a week before because of snow.

Got back this morning. 16 hour drive from Mt Hood, OR to LA was pure hell. Haven't seen that much snow since I lived in Russia. Headlights and fogs would be completely covered, little to no light output, if not wiped every hour or 2. But great place to take the Taco's snow virginity. People kept telling me Portland didn't like us LA boys. I didn't believe it until I was washing my car when I got homeand saw someone keyed my car. Major buzzkill, but overall great trip.

Coming back, I took the 89 instead of the 5 to go through some parks. Man I regret that. Slid a few times, luckily I didn't spin out or anything, but it was still pretty crazy.

Sorry to hear that someone keyed your truck. That’s weird that it even happened. Glad you enjoyed all the snow.
