You can travel over 60 mph in 4X4 you just cant engage it over 60mph. Big difference.

Can you explain what is wrong with 4x4 at freeway speeds? Would you define that as speeds > 55mph?

Whenever these threads pop up theres always a ton of mis-information that is spread and just want to know where you are getting your info from.

I think the misinformation is coming from misreading what the manual says:
    Capture.jpg

It states that you need to be under 62mph to engage 4wd. It says absolutely nothing about speed once in 4wd. In fact, it states that you can disengage at any speed, which clearly indicates that it is find to travel over 62mph once in 4wd.

That is correct, in fact the electronic nannies won't even let 4hi engage, it'll just keep flashing at ya until you drop below 62mph.

That was my assumption, but I've never been brave enough to try it.

lucky, if I were to accidentally press the 4hi button on my shifter in my 04 Tacoma while going 75mph or with slipping tires, I'll break something lol.

I think he meant he used it in 4h to try it out. I think he was just excited about having a 4x4 taco truck.
    Who could blame em :notsure::thumbsup:

i really wish people would stop giving such ignorant advice.

there is absolutely no reason you cannot use 4wd at freeway speeds in wet/snow conditions. None. As long as it is engaged under 55mph you're fine.

4wd is not a requirement for rain, but again, there's absolutely nothing wrong with using it, especially in heavy rain.

You can feel it's in 4 wheel drive on bare roads if you pay attention and if you bind it up you can back up a little to free it up before switching back to 2 wheel .

    • 4hi can be engaged under 62 mph

    • if you’re having trouble getting it to engage while driving just simply let off the accelerator for a few seconds and it should engage

    • once engaged you could drive 100 mph, no harm will be done.

    • dry roads won’t cause any harm, nor will slight turns.

Unless you put it in 4 wheel and have the wheel cut all the way trying to drive in circles you probably won’t do any harm. In fact it’s recommened you put it in 4 wheel ever so often to keep everything lubed and keep the actuator freed up.

BS it's not good to drive on dry roads or slight turns . The tires cannot slip like they need to to catch up .

Unless you are making a sharp 90 degree right or left, a little curve in the road will not cause any binding on dry pavement. I probably wouldn't go anymore than a 45 degree turn if on dry grounds to prevent binding

That's retarded. I've driven thousands of miles in 4H above 60 mph.

Exactly, I don’t know why people think you must only drive like perfectly straight when in 4WD

And even a little binding isn't going to cause problems so long as you're being gentle with the loud pedal. Issues only arise when you add too much torque to the equation.
