Do any of the 3rd gen caps NOT have the skirt that comes down over the side?

Picked this up today at noon. Like new ARE V series, carpet lined, lockable side windows that open upward, interior back window opens downward to clean, roof rail attachment points in place.

I was quoted $2359.00 this morning for this exact build. The guy I got it from paid $2200.00 in Aug 2018. Paid $1200.00, he was selling his truck and wanted it gone. CL score !

Great score! Your truck looks really good. Very clean. Planning on any rack for the topper?

I almost would like something, but really don’t think I would utilize it, most likely not going in that direction.

my ARE overland does not have a skirt, pretty much sits right on the bed rails.

Really? So, if you had a plate on the rails, sticking OUTboard, and set the cap on it, it would be good?

good question--- it might need some creative bending because there is a small lip on it (and probably every shell that exists) but it's pretty minimal. I've wanted to add outboard bike racks for a long time and I think it could be fabbed up pretty easily. I added a really thick triple bulb gasket around mine when I had it off this summer and it makes the shell sit much higher, but there is still a small fiberglass lip. Let me see if I can find some pics I took of it when it was off.

edit-- here is a pic I took when I was adding the new gasket on. You can kind of see the lip on the side here, but with the gasket on my truck now it sure looks to sit above the bedrails. I don't have a good side pic, the lip looks more pronounced because the ratchet strap hook is digging way in to the foam that is up in there.

For what its worth, that is exactly what I am after.
    Need them for both sides.
I dont have a problem triming the skirt/lip, but, rather not do it on a cap I spend 2k for.
No aluminum ones follow the cab.
Looking into other options... But, 3k plus

I got ya... would be definitely doable if you were willing to shave the fiberglass down just a little bit.. but I'm not sure you'd really even have to. Check out the pic I just added to that post. I wouldn't want to do it to a brand new topper either so I get that! Some of the toppers have those huge long skirts that come down the side and this would def not work for that. I hope you find a solution because I'd be down for the same thing!

I had that shell the CX and got rid of it in 6 months. Fit wasn't good and the door itself chipped the shell. Customer service was shit too. Shouldve spent the extra cuz I'm for sure spending more now

I get asked a lot about my shell through DM's here, IG, and on so I just went out and made a semi short video on it. Dont' fault me on the "um's" and wind noise, I'm not a pro youtuber by any means.

Best walk around camper shell video ever. It encouraged me to talk to my dealer about warranty voiding add ons. Thanks.

Great review video. Definitely gave me some food for thought. Thank you for taking the time to put it together.

Hey guys what’s a rough estimate on weight on a short bed 3rd gen Shell? I’m sure the accessories and brands will vary but just a rough number! Something like a Leer 100R or something similar. Thanks

Just picked up my ARE CX with roof rails, sliding and drop down front window, sliding side windows and carpet lining this morning after about a 6 week wait. Could have used it last week for trip to the mountains, but isn't that always the way. Pretty happy with it. Dealer/installer gave me a last minute $30 discount because it was dirty with PA Oak pollen. Brought it home and washed it (gently)!
