Got mine a couple of days ago. Unfortunately Garmin was having some connectivity issues on their end, but I was able to get it to connect and begin working.

Love it so far. Being able to send a preset message that doesn't count against your message limit every month with your coordinates and a link to a map that lets people follow your travel is pretty awesome. Definitely don't regret getting the Mini.

I tried, but I haven't been able to figure out how to force my iPhone to not use it's own GPS. I plan to get a wifi only iPad for Gaia navigation eventually, so I guess we'll see then. I'm really hoping it will work and I don't see why it wouldn't if the normal InReach will do it. Time will tell though.

What I had to do with my Android was to download the Garmin APP to get it to "sync" with the Garmin UNIT.

Then I just minimize the app and open GAIA - Works fine.

Apparently you need to have both apps working since the Garmin APP is what syncs over the GPS signal.

    Maybe that works for apple?

Didn't work... The app tells me to turn on my location services before it will even track me which then enables the internal GPS. I finally found some info on Gaia's website. They say for GPS enabled Apple devices the app will use whichever GPS device has the best signal. In theory that would mean it's going to stick with using the InReach GPS, but it could be switching between that and it's own internal GPS.

So I did some very basic testing out in my backyard. I walked around to different spots with my iPhone connected to the InReach Mini and on the Gaia GPS app it was spot on. But about 15 seconds after I would turn off the InReach Mini the accuracy would go out the window and be about 5-10 yards off. So it would seem that Gaia GPS is using the InReach Mini GPS over the internal GPS when it is connected.

I still want to test it out off roading to see if it continues to work like this, but so far it does seem that even though the iPhone location services are enabled Gaia GPS does use the more accurate InReach Mini GPS when connected over bluetooth.
