If the transfer case blows up or a cv shaft breaks if you make a turn in 4 wd on dry pavement then it was already damaged or oversized tires are installed. Yes it is bad for the driveline but you should not be breaking a cv shaft unless you are going really fast, have huge tires or hit something. Providing a ‘freewheeling’ condition will allow 4h to go into 2h easily. Like taking your foot off the gas when going straight.

I drove in 4HI from the beach to a gas station a few miles away and forgot I had it engaged. Wheels were binding, and I couldn’t push the lever back into 2HI because of all the tension on the driveline. Probably not and issue for you guys since you don’t have a physical linkage to the transfer case.

First off I’m no moron. I didn’t say he was entirely right or wrong. I understand exactly how 4x4 and AWD systems work

Yes it’s should be common sense.

And I think wet pavement is still to high of traction surface to engage 4wd unless your going straight

For the guys that dont understand this thread maybe they should invest a truck with auto 4wheel drive . They can set it on auto and let it there forever .

I corrected what I was referring to as wrong.

The 4wd system in our trucks is more than capable of overcoming the friction of wet roads. He is also incorrect about wet road traction in 4wd vs 2wd.

Think. What quantifiable evidence do you have to the contrary besides assumptions.

Others have posted actual experience. Experience > assumptions.

It's like I said here It's going to be the weakest link that breaks. rather it's a tire slipping, a gear tooth shearing, or chain breaking something has to give. I wouldn't chance it in my truck but you can do whatever you want to yours
