Metal Detecting Anyone?

Let me preface this by saying I lost my wedding ring deep in the yard. So I got a metal detector for a Christmas present! Yeah joy. I been using it but its weird and the directions are vague. Maybe it's like a delay in the detection beep? I find I can hold it over metal and it takes a couple or more seconds to beep. Which can make zeroing in on say a nail or a pop tab difficult. I have found an aluminum can but the ivy where I'm searching for my ring is deep. And my dog poops there too. Anyone else, preferably not on Oak Island, use one of these things help a brother out?

 

Thinking about it here along with some bugging off the paddleboard. Maybe tomorrow or Monday which is a better day to do it.
