I've tried google, came up short. I'm looking for a shallow box (can be open top) that mounts to the bed rails. Think Ram's ram box, sits in the bed and attaches to stock rail system.

You can use ammo cans, they're metal, waterproof, lockable and very affordable compared to a tool box. These will sit on top of the wheel wells and you can bolt them to the rails (after drilling holes in sides of cans). They'll sit about 1" above side of bed. You could get other ones and modify them if you need something more shallow.

Also, the best thing about ammo cans is they don't take up any valuable floor space. These in the picture are quite large, I fit all of my travel tools in one and recovery gear in the other along with spare shackles and ball hitch receiver.

ooo jumping in on this thread and gonna add those guys to the shopping list. What are the diagonal slots on the side? Tie downs maybe? Do they get in the way of the rail system?

I think they’re a brace and they’ll give it space between the box and rail for the lid to close

What I'm looking for is a shallow tray to hold a soggy bike helmet, muddy bike clothes etc. Its its a closed box then it will just keep all the gear wet and nasty. An open tray would allow for it all to dry out a bit on the drive home.

I went with the ammo can method using the T-slot nuts from Amazon to keep some recovery gear and other essentials in. If you want something with an open tray, you can always take the lid off the ammo can.

That’s are cool, yet maybe too small to fit a helmet. Could strap it to the molle panel?

Just use a milk crate bungied to the tie downs in the back. Helmet, shoes, clothes, pack, all fit. Easy to remove, drains, and cheap af

No, not enough wind even at highway speeds to lift anything out of the back especially if it up near the cab.

You can use that idea with any object that will hold items, real easy to make a bracket to fit your bulkhead and save 50 bucks. They are neat looking but not 50 buck neat

Absolutely. They look good, but can be DIY'd for a fraction of the cost.
