Hello all, I am new to this forum and a new proud owner of my first tacoma, and it is my first pickup truck. I dont know alot but I am learning and excited about my tacoma.

I went to the licensing Agency and they wanted to know the weight class of my Tacoma. I'm reading that it's a 1/2 ton. I would like to know what my 2019 tacoma access cab TRD sport weight class really is. If someone could tell me for sure I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you all

Should be 1/2 ton class. Where do you live?

You mean actual FHWA weight class? That would be class 1 light truck, 0-to-6,000 lbs GVWR.

How it's registered depends on your state, plates for a non-commercial light truck here in Colorado can be used up to 16,000 lbs empty, so even a M35A2 2.5 ton truck is only 13,000 lbs empty and could get the same plate as my Taco.

That why I was asking, I live in Ohio, and the bmv here was asking if it was commerical or non com. And then what is the weight class. It is a my personal vehicle and I believe my taco is 1/2 ton. And non-commercial truck

That isn't something we have to worry about here in GA with regard to registration. But there is a sticker on your door jamb with the payload printed on it. It varies by the truck, but it should be around 1200 lbs. Depending on cab configuration and options it could be more, or less.

The old 1/4 ton, 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton nomenclature is really no longer relevant. Payload on what we refer to as 1/2 ton trucks can vary from as low as 1100 lbs up to 2100+ but around 1600-1800 is pretty typical. A Tacoma is a long way from 1800 lbs, so I wouldn't think the state would classify it as a 1/2 ton truck. The 3/4 ton trucks payload can range from 1800 to over 4000 lbs.
