Sorry to hear this Charlie. Just love the pup the best you can. Dogs should live as long as us. I read where one OP said to keep in your head, you gave the dog a good life. Jan 2018 my brown lab dies in our living room. At the time we had a Golden Retriever who was as old. In her last breaths he went over and put his head on her and that tore me apart. 3 months later we had to put Jake down, he just gave up once his partner left him. Dogs understand more then you we them credit. We now have Barney a black lab. He is still in boot camp and will be for another year or more. Labs do not turn the corner until 2 years plus. Last year we swore up and down no more dogs but when you have dogs in the house for over 40 years, it just not a home without a dog in the house.
Please keep us informed...and good luck..............

And besides, my mom said my dog was a gift. He was the last of the litter and he was there to give me a lesson. That's similar to how I look at it, he was the best gift I've ever gotten. I wouldn't trade those 4 years for the world. He was my best friend from sleeping in the same bed to going everywhere I went to running and wrestling, he was always down. But I have two options, be sad or be happy. And I'm choosing to be happy because that's what he was to me. Happiness.

We bought one of those DNA tests where you send in a saliva sample, and Mandy was determined to be about 24% Labrador, 24% Corgi, 12% Staffordshire Terrier, and one other breed I can’t remember.

Mandy did not do this when she was teething, and at almost a year old has started doing it to the point where she can’t be left alone outside her pen...

She is also licking sidewalks and floors, and eating dirt...

We believe she is compensating for an iron deficiency or something.

Sorry to read this about Mandy.
Is she left alone in that room?
    Could it be separation anxiety?
My pup would demolish any room we left him in.
Hopefully the vet can pinpoint the problem.
EDIT : I saw your other post and I believe I read about her last year.
    NVM the anxiety.

As a human with kidney disease; Can’t say I’ve ever had the desire to eat drywall.

It’s probably anxiety. My FILs dog would chew the stucco in the side yard when left for a while.

Back in the day when Pontiac Grand Am was one of the first cars with rubber bumpers. We had a Doberman puppy that took a liking to the rubber bumpers and would chew on the corners. The puppy grew out of the bumper chewing phase. But I remember the body shop guy laughing when I had to get an estimate to remove the tooth marks on the bumper corners. Luckily we were able to repair the bumper without too much expense.

My 10 yr old yorkie poo is at the vet now and they called saying she needs teeth pulled and explained why. They told me it could be expensive, etc. I told her I don't care what it costs and to make her healthy. I get it..

My puppy ate about 2 sq ft. of linoleum one day. He tore up half of the floor. I was able to locate all but those pieces, so I assumed he ate them. Amazingly enough he didn't have any digestive problems later.

Drywall is commonly made from gypsum (calcium sulfate dihydrate). Perhaps the little guy's diet is deficient in this area? Calcium sulfate is fairly common and easy to procure. Perhaps discuss this with the vet to see if he has dosage recommendations?

in the last 2 years my 11 year old yorkie has had 11 teethed pulled, it is very common for them and even more common if they dont have their teeth brushed on the regular (also very expensive and good luck doing it at home), i was worried at first but noticed a vast improvement in his well being, they have a lot more teeth in the back than in the front so when you see only gums in the front dont get too worried

Back in October 2018, we were told that Mandy’s lifespan could be anywhere from one to five years. It seems like Mandy’s health has declined a lot just in the last couple of days, and it looks like she’ll just barely make it past her first birthday.

As of right now, she seems to constantly breathe heavy and her heart seems to beat rapidly most of the time. She seems to be a bit disoriented when up and walking around. She is able to walk okay, and pee okay, but she also pukes a lot and has been pooping in the house on a fairly frequent basis.

She is still very friendly with both people and other dogs, but shows little interest in playing like she used to.

A neighbor got us this keepsake ornament thing for Christmas, and we made a mold of Mandy’s pawprint.
