Hello, this is my first post on TW, first of all I would like to say thank you to all members on Tw you guys have been awesome with your posts, I learned a lot from all of you about my truck and continue to do so every day.

I have a 2017 Tacoma Trd Sport double cab long bed AT with 103000 KM (roughly 60 000 miles) it has a 2.5 inch leveling spacer up front, 2 inch blocks in the rear and 285 70 r17 duratracs

I mainly use the truck to go to worl and take my dirt bike out to the track. No off-roading.

I drove 8 hours in my truck today to visit my parents for the weekend and during my drive I noticed the truck shakes/vibrates at highway speeds (100km an hour or 60miles an hour). It will shake from about 80km an hour and above while In drive (“D”) I also noticed that when I put the truck into “S” mode and shift from 3rd gear to 4th Gear the viberations/shaking feels stronger and when I shift from 4th gear to 5th the shaking/vibrations again get stronger....

But under the speed of 80km an hour the truck does not shaker/vibrate at all in either “D” or in “S” it is completely smooth and normal.

All viberations/shaking occur above 80km an hour

The first thing I am going to do it get my tires Rebalanced as the tire shop used balance beads in the tire instead of the traditional weights on the rim. As I feel the beads in the wheels are causing the tires to not balance correctly, also if the balancing of the tires is at fault, my theory (or guess) is that when the truck is in a lower gear like 3rd, The “natural viberations” of the motor from being at a higher RPM mask (or fade) the shaking/vibration I’m experiencing from the incorrectly balanced tires until the truck shifts into a higher gear which in return would lower the “natural vibrationsl of the motor hence why I feel the vibrations are stronger?

If this doesn’t solve the issue then I am going to grease the zerks on the drive shaft. (If anyone could tell me how many there are that would be awesome)

If the two “ideas” above don’t solve the issue I will install the carrier drop bearing and check my transmission fluid and top up if needed until I can get home and completely flush the transmission.

I’m positive that I got the TSB done for the erratic shifting. From my understanding from my dealer there was a cruise control TSB and a ECU TSB.

I am out of warrenty and I would appreciate any other help or suggestions anyone would have.

It sounds like it's all in your tires, not transmission. Balance, and have you checked are they feathered, or cupped? How many miles on your tires?

About 20 thousand miles, they are not feathered or cupped. Wearing evenly. I am going to a buddy’s shop tonight to have them rebalanced and I will post how the truck is. What do you recommend for psi in tires?

You would have to play around with psi, but I would say start at 38psi. You removing balance beads? and are you going traditional balance, or road force balance?

yeah got an old friend to remove the balance beads and throw on traditional weights on the rim. He owns a tire shop and suggested to run 40 psi. Also flushed out the transmission oil along with both diff fluids. Truck is smooth again. But he is certain the shaking was from the beads as he never uses them himself. Also he said the shaking and unbalanced tires would make the truck have poor gas mileage as it did on this trip.

Rebalance the tires first. Tires wear and need to be rebalanced over mileage.
And tire balancer machines need to be calibrated as well!

I set mine stock 265-70/16" to 32psi cold.
