Theoretically, anyone could rent laser scan equipment and scan a truck to generate a point cloud. But, it's just a point cloud, not a model. Someone would then need to build a 3D model from the point cloud in some software. We have laser scanning at work, but I'm not sure if I could get it for a scan.

Has anyone success making a 3D model of a 2nd Gen Tacoma that they are willing to share?

No I haven't gotten around to trying my hand at the pictures-to-model thing. I need to park the truck in the cul-de-sac and walk around it and get photos at all angles and try to load them into some software. Been super busy.

I've also been looking for a 3D file as well and as you guys know there really isn't much out there. Anyway I use SketchUp for most of my modeling and I found this model for a 2nd Gen Long bed it's not 100% accurate but if you're comfortable enough with the program you can make some modifications.

I haven't had time to make some actual measurements on my truck so I'm not sure what needs to be modified but I think its a pretty good model of the bed if that's what you're looking for. For those of you that aren't comfortable with the program, I'll see if I can get some time to make adjustments and get the model as close to accurate as possible.

I might have a .STEP file of a 2nd gen bed.. I modeled it in Solidworks when planning out my setup. Its relatively close to scale and accuracy.. but could be manipulated to make it exact.

I'd be interested in the file if you can find it.

I'll poke around on my pc at home. I just dont have Solidworks at home so I cant suppress any of the other shit I added to it. So it would pull in as my full bed setup (rack, tent, gear, etc)

I have Solidworks if you want me to edit the file for you and suppress things.

Wow that is impressive. I have done a lot of CAD in my days for both school and work, but never anything that elaborate. What program do you primarily work in?

Solidworks and I just taught myself Inventor. The truck was the easy part (grabcad), but those ROM doors were not. They were a single sized stock model I imported and had to do a lot of tweaking to make fit lol. Each slat is an individual body haha

Ive been trying to find a good picture of a hood that has a scoop on it with measurements available. Ive been wanting to use my vinyl plotter to make a pattern to place on the hood to get rid of the glare when driving into the sun. I know someone has a piece they sell here, but its not really what i have envisioned in my head. Needing something larger, but i dont want it to look jankity once its all done.

How do you like Solidworks vs Inventor? I first learned on Solidworks and that is the one that I have on my personal computer. But then I had to teach myself Inventor because that is what I use at work now. I actually like Inventor better, but I think that may be because I know it better since I use it every day. Always just curious as to peoples preference.

I use inventor everyday but I prefer SolidWorks lol. I think it’s probably because I worked for a VAR and have a bunch of certs and know it better
