Just fixed mine on my 07 Tacoma that I just got last week. I'm sure the previous owner just didn't want to pay what Toyota wants to fix it and learned to live without it. Never soldered in my life but I'm a tightwad and figured I had nothing to lose trying to fix it myself. I just reused the factory resistor. If it goes out again I may send it out to get refurbished.

No I have not. Been a bonehead on this project. Bought the wrong iron, returned...now have correct station and resistors.

Going to give it my best shot next week

Eh, we’ve all been there with truck fixes. You think you’ve researched enough and go to install the new parts only to find that there’s more of a learning curve that you originally thought. lol

I’ve had my fair share of those experiences!

Glad to hear you have the right stuff now. It’s a pretty straight forward fix so don’t be discouraged. You’ll get it done.

Might not be a bad idea to take a practice run, (or two) and try to solder to something that you can toss afterwards, just to get the method down before you go in. Get the iron nice, and hot, and touch the solder to it. The iron will suck it up, and you can use what's on the tip (that's what she said) to make your connections.

    Good advice!
    Practicing first can’t hurt.
“Tinning” the soldering iron tip is definitely recommended.

Did mine this morning. I did a terrible job since my iron was out of gas and I used a wood burning iron(not ideal lol), but it still works.

    Try this......https://siliconmethod.com/diy-tacoma-display-repair-guide/

I did mine vertical, not off to the side. For me it was easier working with shorter leads that would stand on the board.

Thanks. I guess what's throwing my off is they look all way off to the side. Can I just put them like the factory ones?

Exactly what I did. I found it easier to keep the leads in the right spot.

This picture will prove that even bad soldering and bad trimming, this will still Work!!!

And i'll add that this may have been try #2. It took #3 to get the correct resistors... 51 Ohm, 510 Ohm, 5 Ohm.... it does make a difference! Oi!!!!

Ok thank you for the pic! I see why it's like that now. Because the width of the resistor I believe.

Looks like I'm in for a good time!

Did this repair again today. My last repair in this thread was done in Sept 2011, so the first repair lasted a little less than 7.5 years. Not bad. The OEM part lasted about 4 years until I did the first repair.

Original post photos appear to be gone, so I took some of my own:
    https://photos.app.goo.gl/NyS2EYfwGJNKbAWJ7
If you read the photo info, there are some notes.

    FYI tools needed:
    1. Philips screwdriver
    2. T10 Torx wrench
    3. Soldering iron & solder
As described, assuming you have tools and parts, 20 minutes tops. Thanks again to the OP!
