Has anybody experienced any drone with their TRD exhaust? I installed the exhaust over the weekend and it's quite a bit louder than I was expecting after reading the comments here. Think I'm getting a bit of drone as well between 2k-3k as I'm feeling some vibration. I don't see any rubbing but I didn't replace the gasket at the joint. Don't hear any leaks there at idle but I guess it's possible I'm getting some leakage at higher RPMs. Thoughts?

Did you replace the gasket? I replaced my gasket when I had my chrome tip version with no leaks. I did not hate the drone, I did notice less drone with OEM bed mat.

My DCLB with the TRD exhaust has never droned.

Move the exhaust hanger rubbers around and see if that helps.

I installed a brand new TRD cat-back exhaust according to the instructions straight out of a factory sealed box from my dealer 5K miles ago. Since then I've noticed very faint drone once or twice, barely noticeable and not bothersome at all, if anything the system could actually be a bit louder for my taste.

I know what drone is because I put a FVD-Brambacher cat-back on a Porsche Cayman a few years ago. ;)

I got used to the drone. It did bother me a bit at first since I also drive a lexus but now I never think about it. The truck sounds much better from the outside with the TRD exhaust, less like a highlander.

Edit: I have a MT so my cruising RPM's are higher than the auto. Strangely my drone disappears at exactly 74 mph. Id go nuts listening to an auto go straight to the highest gear or hunt. Maybe that contributes to the drone.

My dealer installed my TRD exhaust before I took delivery of the truck so I can compare it to my 2016 Tacoma which did not have the TRD exhaust.

To me the TRD exhaust is not much louder than the stock exhaust. When I first drove my 2019 with it I noticed the difference right away on start up and accel. It sounds good, but after putting 3600 miles on my new truck with the TRD exhaust I have to be honest I barely even notice it is there unless I really romp on it. I have absolutely no drone on my system.

Like the post above I do know what drone is as I have in on my 98 Cobra with a magnaflow aftermarket system on there...so I have experience with drone. :)

What do you mean you have vibration from your exhaust system? Where are you feeling the vibration at? You have my curious with that. Are you hearing vibration under the truck?

Did it ship in 3 pieces? Try turning the tip up. I think my Borla sounds better after doing this. A little less resonating afterwards.

This is the first time I recall coming across a post commenting that the TRD exhaust is loud. I hope you figure out the issue, if there’s one.

It’s almost like some resonance I’m getting around those RPMs... I can feel it in the seat. I’m going to get under there and look at everything tomorrow morning. Might go ahead and replace the gasket as well.

That’s why I was a bit surprised. Hopefully it’s just a hanger or gasket issue.

Well make sure you report back what you find. Sounds like its just a resonance issue like you said...all of these vehicles are just a bit different. I doubt the exhaust system is rubbing on something.

I don't really feel any vibration that I know of out of my system up I will pay attention to the RPM range between 2k and 3k on my drive home tonight and see what I feel if anything.

I think people’s ideas of “drone” differs. I have trd catback on my 2010 dclb and it’s def louder than stock but is the perfect tone IMO. Not too loud but just enough to enjoy the drive :)

With the exception of the TRD exhaust tip I added, I have no issues with drone, or excessive noise with my Stock system, No One has tangible proof of any benefit to cat back exhaust, except more noise. I would rather spend my money on more productive modifications

The problem is this is all opinion based perception.

A friend had the TRD exhaust on his truck, said it sounded great. Super mild, no drone, he wanted something more aggressive. He bought a new larger and louder exhaust and I installed his TRD exhaust on my truck, exact same make/model/year/options. I hated it. It was loud, it droned, it sounded like something a teenager would put on their truck to me. He rode in it to check the noise and thought it was super tame. The exhaust didn't last a week on my truck before removing it. My kid even complained the truck was now too loud. Same exact exhaust unit, same exact make/model trucks, very different opinions. While asking online may help, best bet is to find someone local and check it out in person, because what may seam loud and droning to you may sound 'sporty' to someone else.

I ran my stock exhaust for 1K miles, then replaced it with the TRD cat-back exhaust. My initial reaction was there wasn't much difference at all, the TRD was maybe just a tiny bit louder and deeper, almost imperceptible at least to me. After 5K on the TRD exhaust, I still don't find it much louder than stock, but combined with the TRD intake and OVTune flash makes the truck sound & perform well overall.

I agree this is all subjective perception, but my perception is that I don't find the TRD cat-back loud at all. I never told my wife I installed it, and she never said a word about the truck being louder.

I’m starting to wonder if it is just my perception. Crawled under today and the hangers all look fine. I ordered a replacement exhaust gasket to rule out an issue with leakage at the joint. My two previous cars, Civic SI and Focus ST, both had cat-back exhausts. They both had a bit of drone, I was just surprised to notice any with the TRD. It seems the general consensus is it isn’t much louder than stock.

I think it’s more quiet if you can pull the tip up closer to the body.

I had a 2014 Civic Si sedan. I loved the stock exhaust sound!

No drone from my TRD exhaust. In fact I found it rather mellow for my taste so swapped it out for the Borla catback system with the black chrome tip. The Borla is a bit louder and still no drone. Like others have said, check to make sure it's installed correctly first and maybe try adjusting the angle of the tip.
