Negative Battery Terminal

My 19-year old battery terminals were pretty crusty so I decided to replace them when I replaced my battery. I prefer using OEM parts when practical, so I went with the OEM positive terminal, 90982-05035 found here:

I was surprised to find out that there is no Toyota part number for the negative side. I checked several websites and a PDF of all of the part numbers for my truck to no avail.

Does anyone know of a genuine Toyota part for the negative terminal of another Toyota vehicle that fits a 2000 Tacoma V-6 so I can maintain the stock look? There are several others on Amazon that might work but I don't know if the bolt for the negative cable will be the right size:

It may come as a cable assembly.

 

Yeah, it does, but that’s cost-prohibitive.

 

if you can measure the length(post to block) any decent battery shop can make a decent crimped cable

 

Interesting, no part # for the negative cable. I'm only able to get a positive cable from toyodiy.

 

Don't forget what you said about practical...

 

I bought a second positive terminal (and nut. Cut the loop off the existing negative tree Minsk, then flatten the remaining lug/pad sides so you have a flat piece. Bolt this to the new terminal. May have to clean up with a file. Looks stock and costs almost nothing, and much better contact area.

I just replaced my negative battery terminal connection...I just used a universal connector from the local auto parts store and it works great. Don't need anything fancy it's just a terminal connection.

 

It's cause the negative terminal does not unbolt like the positive. It's one piece with the harness that costs $180. P/N 82122-04042

I did the same as mentioned above. I got the negative terminal from an Avalon or something, cut the radius portion of old negative terminal off, flattened the edges, & used the existing bolt hole as a ring terminal.

your neg terminal looks fine to me... it's usually the positive terminal that gets corroded due to battery corrosion anyways. I'd leave it as is, unless you think the juice is worth the squeeze..

 

I just run the military style terminals. I got this kit, and am planning to do the "big 3" upgrade as well.

To make your own battery/power cables, you can get this tool, too:

Then head to Home Depot for some 1/0 wire, and you're all good under the hood.

I am going to go with the MikeWH / zero4 method. Hopefully that goes smoothly.

 

OK, so it was a little more work than I had hoped.

Late in the game I realized that my tin snips would go through the metal I needed to cut fairly easily after wrestling extensively with a hacksaw. Also, I needed to enlarge the hole in the cable terminal to fit onto the stud coming out of the new part. Thankfully I had a nice rat tail file.
