That is what the recommended change interval is so you will be fine.

I change mine every 5000,it's just what I've always done,10,000 seems like a lot.

I found the aluminum filter housing was much cheaper at my local Napa.

Most do because.... that is what the engineers who designed the truck say to do. Change it whenever you want. Your money.

I stick with the plastic, there have been users who have had small oil leaks from the metal. Why take the risk? I do oil changes myself. I change it every 10k miles. Maintenance light comes on every 5k miles for tire rotation and fluid checks.

I just did my first oil change on the new truck. I sure miss the oil filter on the 2nd gen. This one is a pain in the butt. Have to remove the trap door in my fancy pants TRD skid plate first. Then work through the hole. The drain gizmo drips a bit on the outside, so even though I had a tube, still got oil on top of the skid. Not too difficult but way worse than the old truck.

BTW, I swapped out the housing for the aluminum one. There is nothing inferior about the plastic one though.

I have 2100 miles on the original oil. It was filthy black. I will change it again at 5K, 10K, then go to 10K intervals.

    Dealer did 10k & 20k service

30k service I replaced mine with the aluminum one. In the process found out the dealer has used the 3/8 socket hole to tighten the assembly onto the truck so getting the drain plug out was a PITA.

Also discovered they had messed up one of the bolts on my pro skid plate so it wasn’t tightening down all the way and was crooked

I’ve done all the services and maintenance since…

The dealer cross threaded one of my skid bolts as well. I used washers to take up the slack and keep the skid snug. One day I'll retread it, but for now it works. I assume they were working too quickly and using power tools to try and tighten it.

I changed my oil at 1,500 miles. Then at 10k and 20k the dealer took care of it. I changed it and installed a Fumoto drain valve at 30k and had the easiest oil change of my life at 40k.

Some members have sent oil for testing and the companies were recommending 12-15k intervals. Synthetic is good shit nowadays.

I do 5k for peace of mind and I’ve kept the plastic housing. I’m sure 10k is fine and what Toyota recommends

On mine they tried backing the bolt fully out one at a time which moved the retaining ring. They then just tightened as much as it would go but bound up on the retainer so it wouldn’t go in all the way. Glad it wasn’t cross threaded but still took a while to figure out wtf the issue was
