Excited about the finale. Thought it was cool they tied it into season 1. I looked away for a second and my wife said “that was a picture of Matthew Mcconaughey” and I had to rewind and explain to her it was talking about season 1 (which she hasn’t seen)...

That was my first thought too. I heard Pedo and immediately saw Woody's face and chuckled. Then I was like "oh, True Detective". Good episode. Trying to figure out who the Chicken guy on the phone was. The actors voice sounded familiar.

Just finished it and meh. Ending was a huge let down in my opinion. I figured it was a huge conspiracy involving higher ups but it turns out it was an accident and then the Hoyt’s “adopted” Julie and drugged her. Meh, good season but couldn’t finish it up

The story definitely could have been told in half the episodes. Every episode seemed to slow to a crawl and never recover. The ending I agree was a let down. I guess I can re watch the first season again and appreciate it's magic that was lightning in a bottle.

Yep season 1 still remains the goat. Super let down by the ending and it’s even worse that he almost figured it all out but then forgot it all before he could tell anyone

Yeah, I was hoping he could tell Roland before the end. That was the big letdown for me. There was some good moments in the show but the pacing was very slow and then the ending left something to be desired. I'm curious if his son will pursue the sheet of paper with the address on it? If so... what would he say or do? The dynamic between Hays and Roland just wasn't as compelling as season 1. Roland had all the best lines in the show but it just wasn't the same as Cole's dialogue throughout season 1. I don't believe they will ever recapture of magic of season 1 as that will never be topped in my opinion. That series falls just shy of Band of Brothers for the best series ever created. It was worth watching but not what I was expecting.

Ha I told her that. I said if we get to the point where we have nothing to watch (which will never happen) then we can watch Season 2 haha

The only series that will compare ever compare to the first season is Band of Brothers. Other than that... nothing will ever compare to the first season of True Detective.

Band of Brothers is damn good. Contemplated watching that tonight but decided to drink, listen to music and watch The Good, the Bad & The Ugly instead

I make it a point to watch it at least once a year. My Grandfather is 99 and served in the Army Air Corps on an A 20 / A 26 during WWII. IMO it is the best series ever made. It is the bar that I use to gauge whether or not a series / movie is worth watching. A buddy of mine told me to watch the first season of True Detective and I asked him if it was as good as Band of Brothers? He told me "almost... it's right up there" which was good enough for me. Turns out he was right. It is by far one of the best series I've ever seen. I was really looking forward to this season but it just didn't live up to my expectations. It had some good parts but taken as a whole... nah.

So I had a free Saturday and decided to binge watch the first season of True Detective again. I've come to the conclusion that they should never make another one. There is just no way they will ever top that. It is just so fucking good.

I liked all the seasons but nothing was as good as Season 1

HBO been lacking a little on their show quality with the addition of 'Max Originals' lately. I haven't really found a show from them to 'suck me in' like they used to.

That said, I did thoroughly enjoy the first season of The White Lotus that I just watched last week in anticipation of season 2. I decided I'd rather wait to watch season 2 once all the episodes are out though as season 1 was more enjoyable being able to binge it over a couple of days.

We also just watched the second season of The Flight Attendant. It was decent, season 1 was better but an OK show and Kaley Cuoco
