Best of luck to you, if you want it bad enough you can do it!

My father smoked for my entire childhood, and hid it from me and my brothers. I never new he smoked until I was finishing high school.

He regrets it the most of anything in life, it destroyed his heart.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt it is the dumbest thing I have ever done. Killed my dad (lungs) so I totally get what you are saying about yours.

$28/L is surprisingly reasonable at dealer parts counter pricing. However, viscosity will not be as good as commercially available 75W90 oils, otherwise Toyota would've rated it as such. I've been putting 75W140 in my 2nd gen's rear diff since 2014. Did the same with my new truck a few weeks ago.
Interesting. :) Rear diff break-in period is 800 km. I suppose ideally you'd want to change the front diff oil after 800 km of 4WD usage. Most people don't keep track though!

This regarding the 6 jugs of Mobil 1 0W30 in the background? I got them at half price when the Walmart near my parents closed down last month. (You know the neighborhood's rough when a Walmart can't keep its doors open.)

Can’t imagine it affecting much. These trucks are hard to spin out with the trac systems on.
If anything it may change the shift points to improve gas mileage or keep a cooler tranny.

I drive on harpacked snow a lot, and recently have been seeing too much orange on the dash. More responsive engine might cause the nanny to go nutty, so I hope to hear from somebody from up north.

Edit: still waiting for your OV Tune comments, northern folk

Based on reviews I read, it makes it more responsive so I agree with your idea it would probably make it where it kicks in more.

And I think you need to run 91 octane with ov tune.

I can't see it making the drive better. Might take some getting used to and keep it the same though.

Maybe try finding some in the more Northern states in the mountains with lots of snow for more feedback

    From what I've read in the OVtune thread;
Last version I read about was Version 1.05 that incorporates the latest Toyota ECU updates.
Different versions for 87 vs 91 gas.
For both manual and automatic moves the torque curve down lower and more linear.
    Better throttle response.
Slight improvement in shifting feel for Manual Trans.
Shift points and seeking all fixed for the Automatic.
With the cable and software you can get with it you can also flash your stock firmware back onto the computer.

He's also working on a turbo kit and flash.

Seems like it's a slight improvement for the MT's and a good improvement for the AT's. With the latest Toyota software.
If you had the earlier version of the MT or AT software (16-Early 17'ish) it would be a major improvement.

So I'm guessing nobody in this thread has tried OV Tune yet?

^Ideally you should change the fluid once at 800 km, then every 3 years or 48k thereafter. For the front diff, effectively you are always coming up against the calendar limit before the mileage limit. (Oil does degrade chemically over time.)

Accidentally found Quaker State 75W90 synth oil on clearance at Grainger for $6 a bottle! Bought enough to do the Subaru diffs next year. :D

FYI Quaker State and Pennzoil are both Shell brands.

I always do it in the fall.
When you do it in the spring then drive all summer and suck in water to axles etc. Have to do it all over again before winter

I do it so its fresh for winter and dont wheel much, summer is gets ruined and changed out again

I went to an aluminum rim repair shop that my buddy suggested because a lot of the paint is chipping off the rims and they don’t look great. The guy quoted me $175 a rim. He said they sandblast it, lay a bunch of prime, hand sand, then prime again and paint then clear coat. I don’t have the money to do that right now because I have 8 rims but does that seem like a reasonable price or could I do better somewhere else ?
