I only had a mere GTi, but in a perfect world, I'd have a GTi and my Tacoma. I loved driving the GTi. I do miss it and I truly think it is almost the perfect car from size to driving. It was also far, far more trouble free than my Taco in the 5 years I had it.

I agree with the OP, however I think a commonality here is that a lot of us are coming from GTI’s and Golf R’s. I think it goes to show how amazing those little cars are for daily driving, they are sophisticated, reliable, and really are some of the best vehicles ever made.

The Tacoma has a long way to go in terms of creature comforts and power delivery.

There’s a full 270° exit ramp I take to work every morning and even with mud terrains I can take it doing 45mph. I pass all sorts of sporty cars doing the same turn. It’s all about braking and weight distribution and dynamics. Of course I’ve been to Porsche sport driving school a few times. I actually think having more body roll has helped me understand string theory and weight distribution better than when I was driving my JCW mini.

That being said, I came from a TDI Jetta and it was even zippy (not as fast or as nimble as the mini) but I still love the truck. It is what it is. A reliable, first in its class mid size truck. If you wanted sporty or stick, you clearly bought the wrong vehicle.

However a recent article I read stated More people keep Toyota for 15+ years than any other brand.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/new...-last-you-15-years/ar-BBSfmhs?ocid=spartandhp

Let’s do some math. Average US new car purchase is $523/mo. Let’s round it down to $500/mo. If you kept your truck for 15 years, that’s $90,000 (15*12*500). Keep the truck for forever, buy fun car later. The Tacoma will still be worth more than a GTI in 5 years.

I have to admit to being more apprehensive on keeping the GTI past warranty than the Tacoma but damn that ea888 is a gem. I'll most likely have another.

I had a 17 gti that blew up at 3,000 miles brand new off the showroom floor . Turbo fan blade came off and took out cylinder number 3. Had it covered under warranty the bill was 16,400$ to fix . Ended up keeping it for a few months after that and got the R brand new. Would have kept the R but like I mentioned above it was rear ended badly. I had 15,000 miles on my stage 2 golf R and never had any issues at all the car was super quick and fun. I wouldn’t doubt if I get another one in the future.

I'm sure your old Tacoma is much less annoying without you in it
