Idiot's FAQs about upgrading stock headlights

I have a 2016 SR Utility Package and after hours on TW don't understand / can't figure out if I have projector headlights or reflectors. I would like brighter headlights that travel further than the stock setup.

Without having to replace the housing(?) or installing relays is there an easy plug-and-play option to increase my headlight output by simply changing the bulb?

I don't care what type (halogen, hid, led) but I don't want it to burn out next week and I don't want to have to modify anything to get the bulb in.

Either way you can run the same bulbs, just will get a proper cutoff and with the projector with hid/led. I'd say you have the reflector housing, just do something like this.

Seems like the OSRAM is a good alternative for OE swap. Seems like HID might get better lifespan for the price though?

 

I switched to GE 130+ H11 Megalight (or ultra light I forgot). The output is by far waaayyyy better and not yellowish. Went on a dark road here and I think I blinded a squirrel crossing the road.

 

How long have those GE's lasted? I'm just reluctant to drop cash on halogens that have a short life expectancy.

 

Auxbeam LEDs. They are plug and play and have Major output. Both fogs and headlights are 6000 lumens. For a 2nd Gen Tacoma the headlights are H4s and fogs are H11

 

hows the cutoffs with the H4 headlights, set up looks good

 

Do you notice focus issues with the beam at distance? It seems like the consensus is that LEDs don't focus as well because they lack omni-directional output.

 

So far the full 3 weeks I’ve had them lol. They last about a year maybe more depending how often you use them I guess.

 

The lights focus perfectly. I can literally light up signs from 3 blocks away. They light everything up. Especially with the fogs on.

 

don't the 3rd gen trucks have projector style lense low beams and the highs are standard reflector housings? in the low beam projectors I would think they would focus better than standard houisings

 

I guess if you're putting out 3k lumens per bulb instead of 1.3k, it doesn't really matter if it's slightly out of focus...

 

are those H4s have the adjustable beams where you can unlock a allen screw and twist the bulb till u get the cutoff u want? can use still use the Rubber boots even with the Heat sink?

 

That's also another thing I forgot about. I dont have projector lens. So I guess I wouldn't know what they would look like in those.

 

As far as I know they dont have any adjustment key.

Did you get/need either the Philips bulb or the PWM Module?

 

End of thread. I can't believe what an improvement this was. It's pointless to put LEDs or HIDs in the stock reflectors when this is such a simple upgrade.
