I'm not tech savy enough to figure out how to bypass their security features then to allow authorization with a cheapo adapter. I wish I was though.

Its not necessarily trivial to bypass, it comes down to how serious they were about securing it, and whether or not the firmware on their microcontroller speaks a common language.

To make that a little more clear....

Assume that in the easiest case, their dongle is nothing but a run of the mill $5 fake-ELM327. They could have just set the identification string to "bluedriver" and made no further changes. If that's the case, then all you would have to do, is decompile their program (there are easy ways to do this, but it is beyond the scope of this discussion), do a string substitution for that to the name of the substitute adapter, recompile, and install. Or alternatively, modify the substitute dongle's firmware to change the identifier string to what is expected by the software.

The more complicated possibility is much more challenging to deal with. That possibility is that they've implemented a different protocol between their program and the dongle, in which case, you'd pretty much have to rewrite their program to use the more common language. In this case, it would *definitely* be a much easier job to contribute the functional differences over to the AndrOBD project.

    Thanks for the clarification

The dongle I used w the Ford software was an ODB MX (or something along those lines). I’ll check to see if it works with the Torque App.

If you’re concerned about hacking and don’t need the real time feed, just take it out.

Yeah, you should be fine with that adapter on the torque app

Samsuck is almost as bad as the fruit company.
If its not a PIXEL, its not worth owning... since you don't actually own it and you're forced to eat their bad code and ugly ass cartoon UI.
Pixel is unlocked (sim and hardware), and directly supported by AOSP... oh, and Google *actually* puts out monthly security updates. Samdung? LOL.

SO, here is my 2 cents. lol! i have the blue driver from ultra gauge. i am using the ultra gauge app with it. i have had trans temp on my 06. there is a section where you can download specific pids for your application. they are not from ultra gauge but from other users that uploaded them. dont remember off hand of the exact screen it was on. just need to see witch ones work for your truck.

I know this is an old thread but thought I would tag along on this one instead of creating a new one.

Anyone having issues with BlueDriver crashing while reading live data? I’ll have the app pulled up and everything is fine and then it just crashes after 5 mins. Then pull it back up and then crash again after 5 more mins. Very frustrating.
