Got the brakes hooked up again, the CVs torqued, and the spacers mounted up and staked. Just need to fill the front diff, power steering fluid and brake fluid, do some bleeding and then I’m basically done. It does look like my toe is off despite trying to replicate what I had before, so I need to get that back to normal before I drive it to get it aligned for real.

I also got the power steering fluid cooler and filter installed, which should help the pump and the rack immensely. I ended up using some of the leftover hose for abrasion sleeves and a ghetto grommet where the hoses go through the core support.

Thanks, man! I appreciate you pointing out the pics in your thread. That helped a lot.

What's the main purpose of adding a filter and cooler to the power steering? Will it actually benefit it enough to justify doing it?

The filter will definitely be a benefit. The cooler is kind of a toss up but is so cheap and easy enough to do, why not install one? It helps increase the fluid capacity slightly and isn't going to hurt anything. And just about any kind of wheeling puts a good strain on the power steering system, which will build heat. I see it as preventative maintenance that will hopefully help the steering rack and pump last longer.

Perhaps the next fluid change I'll add these to the list. Like you said wouldn't hurt but I've got bigger fish to fry so on the wish list it goes. Thanks

Filter is a great idea. The mesh in the reservoir gets plugged all the time which causes more problems then not. Easier to clean a filter then that thing.

Cooler idk if it'll help. Can't hurt especially for big tires.

    What these gentlemen said, Josh.

Running 315s even for the relatively short time that I have had pretty much zorched my power steering fluid. When I pulled the steering rack the fluid was brown. Not even a little bit red. Since my rack and pump are still in really good shape I figured it’s worth it for such a small investment.

I’d consider it since you’re running basically a brand new rack, right?

Yup maybe 1k miles on it. So since I just threw in new fluid I'll go ahead and wait until it's time for a flush or if I'm just that bored and with nothing else to do to the truck

The truck is back on all fours and out of the driveway!

    :headbang:

Next up is a rough alignment so that it can be driven to the alignment shop for a proper one. Only other things left on the project are the tack weld mod and some hose for the limit strap clevises as insurance, but I can do those whenever. I’m so close!

I dig the torque pen on the nuts in the spacers. However, they won't matter that much when you bust a CV on the trail and gotta pull the spacer. Honestly if there was one thing I wish I could do about my setup, (well idk about only one), is not run a spacer to make CV changes faster on the trail. Truck's looking proper homie.

    Thanks, dude!

I know what you mean with the spacers. They’re definitely another layer of dick pain, for sure, but short of going to a cool guy 285/75/17 with some 3.5 BS wheels, I’m stuck running them for a while.

And the torque stripe stuff is just me indulging my borderline OCD :D

Oh hay, since you were in the neighborhood, I was just about to post this up:

Hey Mike, do you happen to have the part number or a link for that solenoid you used on your winch. I’d like to add that in when I do the wiring for the in-cab controls.

    Thanks in advance, my man!

Haha I hear that on the OCD. Where did you get the actual torque paint from? I'm using craft store paint pens because I haven't been able to source any locally.

And thank God for Amazon order history.

    Hell yes! Thanks, homie!

And right back atcha with the Amazon link. It’s the same shit we used in the aerospace industry for torque witnessing and tamper proofing, but it’s thicker than paint. Super noticeable if something comes loose because it chips by design. Also makes it relatively easy to chip off if something needs to be pulled.

Still handy when pulling the wheels off for some reason. Quick way to check that they haven't moved.

    Yep.

Like I said, it’s mostly from working on flight-critical hardware in aerospace. It isn’t full up epoxy staking, but it’s the next best thing!

One thing I will say, @cynicalrider , is that a higher visibility color would be better, but I’m not sure if they have one.
