Can’t go wrong with a dual sport. I currently own a DRZ400. Great, reliable bike. Lots of fun too as long as you don’t want to go over 80 mph.

 

You guys sound old.

 

I dont plan to really get on the interstate with it, it's just for around town. I love motorcycles I love feeling the wind on me

 

I used my DRZ in college for getting around town. Made my life much easier and more fun. Just gotta be aware of your surroundings. I also had a plated CRF450x I rode for a while as well. 55hp on a 230lb bike is a lot of fun.

 

I may go around to a few stores and do some price shopping, I just need to get a couple things paid off first. That should be done in the next month or so though

 

If it’s solely for around town, a Harley sportster is awesome. I think mine is prefect for back road rides with my wife.

 

There is a button on the driver door that puts the window down

 

Get used whatever you get and save on depreciation. Got a 09 KTM EXC-R 450 4-stroke with a supermoto setup. Dual sport is a blast. I keep dirt stuff on it and run hybrid tires. I can do highway speed but don’t enjoy it. I commute on firebreaks and just avoid the hunting areas.

I’d rather go fly combat missions in Asskrackistan, than get on a street bike these days. With the era of widespread distracted driving, it’s a matter of when, not if.

Plus, the adrenalin rush is muuuch better.

 

An 883 Sportster can easily be had in that price range.

 

To each his own. I rode everyday for 5 years straight in college and had my share of close calls but was always able to avoid anything catastrophic. As long as I was paying attention, and was always thinking of ways to stay out of an accident with other vehicles, I was fine even with all the distracted college drivers in Auburn.

Look at 07+ for the fuel injection.

I got my 07 Sportster in 2012 with about 3k miles on it for $4,500

 

DRZ is the standard for dual sports. But fwiw I had a KLR 650 for a while and it was a lot of fun

 

Sounds cheesey, but you only live once. Everything has a risk, so why not do what you enjoy? Its all up to the individual but in my opinion you can't let what ifs ruin your chances of doing something you've always wanted to.
